Come to the Palm Springs area for Christmas and enjoy our warm weather. Here is a link to our area parks www.palmspringsrvparks.com.

Borrego Springs which is a little off the beaten tracks is maybe Southern California's best kept secret. Despite being in one of the most populated counties in the country it is rather small and the population isnt a whole lot more than it was 40 years ago. There are two main RV parks the Palm Canyon Resort which is closest to town and walking distance to the town and Springs which is on the pricey side and is more upscale. Both the State Park and the Nature center offer daily guided walks in the park. Inside the town there is a library and a skate park. Borrego Springs has maybe the darkest skies in Southern California. For day trips you are close to the town of Julian and really not too far from San Diego if you decide to make a big trip. In my opinion since its winter going to Joshua Tree and maybe Death Valley the temps might be a little on the cold side. Borrego Springs is a safe bet and you are much more likely to find temps in the low 70's rather than the low 50's.

Considering the age of your girls you might try Newport Dunes here in Orange County. There are plenty of other families for the girls to make friends with and things to do around the park. Plus you've got Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Universal Studios nearby for fun things to do. Then head up to the southern end of the Sierras to Sequoia National Park for the snow fun part of the trip. You can even make a trip up the Sierras to Yosemite and see it all. If you don't mind knocking out a few more miles after you see Sequoia take a few days and head over to Death Valley for some contrast. Happy camping!

Looks like we will be staying at...drum roll...

a military FAMCAMP called "Admiral Baker Field". It has a LARGE central playground, full hookups (including cable TV), nearby pool, gym, commissary, base exchange, base fuel, plus it is located near San Diego Zoo (under 5 miles) and Sea World (under 12 miles) all for $22 a day.

thanks for the help and suggestions--I was leaning towards Palm Springs area but looks like the estrogen in the family won me over (hey, I am outnumbered 3 to 1!).
