Hello,

Looking for some suggestions on making Windows Vista Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) working. I want to share a Spint Air Card/Modem between two laptops. The Aircard works fine on each laptop.

I tried sharing the AirCard on laptop A, but Windows returned a nonspecific error each time. So I successfully shared it on laptop B. But I cannot connect to it from laptop A.

My network works fine, via Ethernet cable and wireless. Both pointed to the same network and workgroup. I can see files back and forth between the two laptops. I have turned off the Windows firewall and Norton Firewall and Intrusion Control, as well as other misc security settings in Norton. I also turned off DHCP in my WRT54G router, so it didn't conflict with DHCP in laptop B. I set the LAN and other options in Internet Options-Connections as instructed in the Help. I also tried connecting the two laptops via a crossover Ethernet cable - NG.

Since I could not share the Aircard on laptop A, I suspect the problem lies there. But I sure can't find it. In the network window, I only see each laptop name and NIC. I only see the

Any ideas would be welcome. Otherwise I must purchase a new router that accepts this USB modem at $175.

Thanks.

I have my aircard plugged into a D-Link DIR-450 wireless router. Both laptops see this wifi connection and we share the bandwidth of the aircard. Has worked great for over two years. I suspect there are newer mobile wireless routers. But it works transparently. If your wifi works this will.

Just purchased a Cradlepoint router from 3g Store. Sierra Wireless 881U on AT&T. Works beautifully! Give the 3G store a call, they are good people.

Here's an article I found about ICS that may or may not help you: ICS with Vista.

Hope that helps. I'm in agreement, though, with the others that have posted about using a router to share the aircard. Although it may cost you a few $$ it really works well. I personally use a Cradlepoint CTR-350 router with a Verizon USB720 aircard. I am very happy with the combination.

I have used ICS in the past and always hated it. One thing I particularly disliked about it is that the "master" computer (in your case, the computer with the aircard) must be booted up and connected to the internet before the 2nd computer can connect. With a router, either computer (also more than 2, my router allows 16 simultaneous connections) can connect independently of each other.

Hope you come up with a solution that works best for you.
