I traded a 99 2500 Dodge gasser in 2.5 years ago (125K mi.), and only got $6K for it then. I bought an 01 2500 Cummins 79K miles for $13.5. I would say that truck is to high.

Okay, an update.
Been away fifth wheeling, before leaving dealer turned me down on my offer, and countered with 11,700CDN Before taxes, and all the other stuff, I told him 10,000 out the door, so fellow goes to manager and comes back, says no.
So I told him goodbye, went away for two weeks, truck still there, so e-mailed the sales guy I deal with, and have bought two cars off of in the last year and said okay, 9,000 have not heard back.
Truck has now sat on their ford lot for at least a month now.
Guess they don't want to get rid of it that bad.

So they turned down my last offer of 9,000, guess I will have to look elsewhere for a truck.

I'm assuming the engine is a V8 (360), not a V10.
I had that same truck (in a 2001 Dodge 2500) with 4.10 gears, 4x4. It was a trusty workhorse, pulled my ~9500#, 34' TT with it. Towing mpg was between 4 and 7 mpg, 4 with a headwind, 7 without. Usually around 6-7 towing -- it was working hard. Never gave me any trouble at all, but did slow down in the hills. Usually a good hill (Canadian Rockies) was 55 km/h in 2nd gear at ~4000 RPM. It had right aropund 100,000 miles on it (155,000 Km) when I traded it for my first diesel.
The posters from the states don't understand that the bottom hasn't fallen out of the Canadian truck market to the extent it has in the US. Best to check out Autotrader.ca to see what it's worth.

You must be right, because down here in the heartland of the USA, that truck wouldn't bring much over $6000 at this time. It is definately a buyer's market around here right now, unfortunately for me I gots no money!!
Luckily my low mileage old Dodge is doing fine. Probably about the time I am ready to replace it in a couple years the local truck market will surge again and I will have to pay top dollar.

Obviously I can't speak for Canada, but that truck is way to high in price and miles. My dad has a 2000 Ford 4x4 Crew Cab Diesel Superduty he was trying to sell a while back for close to that price, and it never sold.
As far as the engine, it all depends what you're trying to tow, but I had a 2001 Dodge with the 360 and the thing would ping and struggle with my 2900lb boat. So if you're planning on towing a heavy camper, I'd definitely go with a diesel.
On a last note, I've noticed used diesel pickups going for great deals. I'm confident that you could find a similar truck with the cummins for that kind of money. Also be aware that those auto's on those trucks kinda suck. We have to rebuild those trannys every two year on the older rams like that at work, and they do go through brake pads for some reason.

That is not the case with the vast majority of 360s on the road. I have owned 2 and neither one would struggle with a 2900 lb load of any kind. You obviously had something wrong with yours.

IMO too high would not pay that price. You could find a newer truck with less mileage for that price. I have a 2004 dodge 2500 quad cab fully loaded would 80k miles I would part with for 15,500 good ole american dollars.

I believe you. The thing is with mine if I recall back then after a certain year 98-99 I think, the factory did something to the design of the PCM which kinda ruined the 5.9's performance. I remember frequenting a Mopar forum back then and everyone experienced the same thing with the 5.9's. Either way, my experience with the 5.9 on a 1500 was not memorable for power. I do remember however, that it would get horrid MPG's 12 on a good day. In a 2500 I would imagine the power loss would be worse. That said, I do know for a fact that the 360 back in the day when it was carbureted was a killer v-8 as were many of the mopar engines.
