Rced this message this morning from the ReserveAmerica.com folks.
Dear Kentucky State Parks Customer
This email is to inform you of a change at Kentucky State Parks.
Camping throughout our State parks has remained a favorite past time for generations. We hope that you will find the campgrounds as well as attention to your needs, to be to your full satisfaction.
Over the course of time the costs associated with operating our campgrounds as well as other facilities in the State Park System has steadily increased. While we have made every attempt to absorb these operational costs in our budget, we have reached a point where some expenses unfortunately must be passed along to our campers.
We wish to inform you that beginning with all campground reservations made as of August 1st, 2008, the $7.50 reservation fee charged to Parks will be passed along to our campers. Per night campsite fees will remain the same. This will not affect reservations made prior to August 1st, nor will first come/first serve camping be affected. Up until now, Kentucky was one of only a handful of states still absorbing this fee. We regret the increased costs to you the consumer, however we trust that you find camping at our Parks still serves as a great value. Thank you for your patronage and we look forward to accommodating your needs in the future.
Should you have any questions please contact Sam Devine, Director of Customer Service, at sam.devine@ky.gov.

Michigan State Parks are the same way and it makes it very cost prohibitive for non-residents to stay at our Parks when you consider $24.95/night for W/E PLUS an $8.00 reservation fee PLUS a $6.00 DAILY permit to enter the Park (you do have option to purchase a $24.00 annual pass)...

Michigan reservation is $8 and they charge you $5 for drive-ins since you didn't make a reservation. How any of our State Parks can justify the prices they are charging is beyond me. They pay no property taxes, they only want volunteers to work for them, you can't find a ranger after 5PM or weekend, and most parks are understaffed. Oh I forgot they are operated and controled by the State.

First come first served may work out well due to lower traffic. The $7.50 works for me since we were paying it for everyone before.

Sound like a great way to absorb their extra cost for operations. They are only passing along the reservation fee to those who use the reservation service. Why should drive ups pay for a cost they do not use.
