We tried this on our most recent outing and I have to share it - they were so good! We used boxed brownie mix and made it according to the directions on the box (added oil, water, eggs for this one). We used cooking spray on the two halves of the cookers. We then put the mix in half of the iron to almost full. We put the other half on, then put them on the grate on the fire. (Usually we put the pie iron right in the coals, but in this case I thought the stuff would ooze out.) I let the first side go about 5 minutes, then turned them. After that I checked and turned about every two or three minutes until they were done. Careful, at the end they cook faster and can become too crispy. They turned out firm on the outside and a bit gooey on the inside. Yum!

Wow, that sounds pretty good. I never really thought about trying brownies. Between these and the roasted twinkies on another thread my kids may never sleep!!

That sounds good with a little scoop of ice cream on top.

I would think that cake mixes might work also.

One more reason to use the pie irons and stay off the diet! LOL! I agree with Juliev, turning this into a brownie sundae with ice cream and some fudge sauce would be awesome!

I bet you're right about the ice cream. Since we camp in a PUP, we'd have to buy it while the brownies are cooking when we're at a cg close to a store. Or maybe we could try the "kick the can" ice cream while making the brownies.

hmmmmmm . . . you got the thought processes going. I'll be you can do cornbread in them too - the batter is kinda thick like brownie batter. "Food" for thought!! Thanks for the idea!!
