Yes, unhitched and well lubed it will slide and bang. That nasty thing called gravity uses the realease handle to sling it around. I use a plain old bunge cord hooked to a ss eyelet on my tool box to keep it pulled foward.

Many of your posters failed to read your statement, "the hitch bangs when it is unhitched from the trailer". The nylon block adjustment is for when the trailer is hitched to the truck, it stops the forward and rear slop in the hitch when you are moving and stopping. This does nothing to stop the hitch from sliding when it is unhitched, your last poster hit the nail on the head, bungee cord the hitch and it won't move.

I'm sorry but if you have a SuperGlide you will need to read your manual. This is a direct quote from the owners manual that I posted with the link to it
"or if the hitch is
sliding up and down the way
tubes when you are
NOT HOOKED up to the trailer you
can perform this adjustment
to reduce the noise and keep
the hitch in the forward
towing position."

There is absolute no reason for a bunge cord if you just adjust the nylon block per instructions in the manual.

I use to use the bunge cord till I really took the time to read the manual. Go to my first post with the link to the manual and go to page 10 to read all about it.

So as you can see I did read and understand the OP post.

Butch is 100% correct.

Even if he was not, when you adjust the nylon bushing as described in the manual, the hitch will stop sliding and making noise. Absolutely no need for a bungee cord. Mine has not "bang around" for close to two years now.

If you have to ask why I drive a Diesel, then you will never understand.
