I just found in my notes that when I called a week before we arrived to verify my reservation, our group had premium sites 6,7,8,18,19& 20. We were all over the campground. The 7th in our group had requested a site with a great view. It was either 352 or 353.

I hope that you have better luck than we did.

Did they honor GoodSam cards in the past? If they did, they no longer do.

At least the water was clean!!! We have stayed at Patten Pond the last five years and had a great experience. It was even worth the commute to the Island. My DW liked staying away from all the action but we were really dissappointed this year. First we checked in during a driving rain storm with no mention of the water (also had problems with the brakes on the Fiver during the last half of our trip), waited an hour, then started to set up after the major rains had passed (around 5pm). During set-up, I needed to use the facilities and saw a large sign on the mirror that said not to use the water with no explanation. Then looked around and found a "boil water notice" from the State of Maine. When I went to the office to inquire, it was closed (closed at 5pm Sunday-Thursday). I noticed someone inside so I knocked, with attitude she told me they were closed, I told her I had a question, she again said, "We are CLOSED!". I finally said it was about the water and she came to the door and opened with a "WHAT???" I brought up the boil notice and she said everything is fine, just don't drink it. She had used it for laundry, cooking, brushing her teeth, even to give to her dog, just don't drink it. They supposedly had gotten the OK from the testing company and were waiting for the State of Maine to certify it. Then she finally offered us drinking water if we needed it. We had made our reservations in April, you think we could've gotten a phone call but they didn't even do that for someone who had called later in the week for a site that night and never mentioned the water to him. I would've left but had to determine what the deal was with my brakes, which I eventually found a broken wire. I even heard someone joking that the Manager had called earlier with a "Is this the campground with the dirty water?" question and they were all laughing about it.

To add to it, activities that were always there are no down to once a week (the hayride), free things that were once there are no more, among other things. We decided that we are done with that or the other Encore Resorts in the future. We are unsure where we are staying next year but it will not be at one of the three resorts (Mt Desert Narrows, Narrows Too, or Patten Pond). And that is too bad, because the former owner did such a good job with the resorts, they were friendly, and cared about their customers, unfortunately she decided to retire.

It funny how the management's atrocious top-down bad attitude has taken over in all three campgrounds. Did you have to pay a resort fee?

I hope that you take a few minutes an write up your experience in RVparkReviews.com.

Well we're heading up to the Narrows today. I'll post back on Tuesday to let you know how it went.

I am happy to report that our weekend experience at the Mt. Desert Narrows was completely positive. We arrived Friday early evening, 6:00ish. Our camping companions had arrived earlier in the day and the kids were already in the heated pool. We have not made reservations for the weekend for the last 5 years as the campground has never been full and space was always available. While it did seem busier this past weekend than in past years, there were still ample adjacent spots. The office originally put us in two spots with little shade but as our friends got to the sites, they paused to look. Someone on a golf cart stopped and asked if there was something they could help with. Our friends asked if the couple sites across the road under some nice shade trees were open this weekend. The person left and returned and said they are open and we were welcome to them. On the map, it's the sites 10,11, and 12. We had 11 and 12. Best non-water sites in the park. Pool was warm (perhaps a bit TOO warm) and clean. Baths were as normal, clean. Staff was friendly. There were a few changes we noticed - no complementary morning news paper delivery and since they are now open until the middle of October (they used to close after Labor Day) there was no Pajama madness Sunday night sale at the camp store. The pie lady still makes deliveries from her car, bell in hand. We had blueberry. The lobsters we picked up from the little shack just down the road were still incredible. The weather, aside from a quick 30-minute rain storm Saturday night was near perfect.

We spent 2 weeks at the end of July at Narrows II as the Narrows was booked in our time slot. Same company, new workampers. The help was great. Icecream socials, potluck night, Elvis night and activities for the kids(we didn't bring any) We were on a hill with water view, only 1 waterfront site has the hookups arranged for pull in, which for the price you should be able to look at the water through the windshield(jmo). The place was maintained nicely. I was surprised that it was as empty as it was. The grass on the sites was browned up from lack of rain but was trimmed up. I would definitely go back. As an added bonus we had booked for a week and when we extended 4 days the gave us a 20% discount.

Were either of you charged the $3 night surcharge they call a "Resort Fee"?

You know, I don't know. I'll have to see if I can find the receipt. I kept the cc slip but the receipt was kicking around the truck somewhere.

I paid what I was quoted when making the reservation. No additional charges at check in.
