I-59 in NE Al and I-55 thru the N part of MS. Two of the roughest stretches of interstate hwy in the SE.
And have to agree that 560 miles in one day with a RV is quite a lot. Of course if you are pushed for time, been there done that, I can understand. As others have said leave earlier and miss the heavy traffic for the most part.

Then it smoothed out nicely UNTIL Chatanooga where there was a car that tried to commit suicide in a curve...a 10 mile stretch of STOP and no go....took 90 min to get through Chatanooga..then all was well until we got off of I 40 to our campground (Smoky Bear..very nice)..a flashing sign at the end of the exit said "Parkway closed because of heavy smoke" from a woods fire 2 days old...so turned around and went back 5 miles to an open exit...finally made it to the CG for our usual unintended dark arrival!!
It seems that lately on every trip we run into large jams because of accidents...and arrive much later than planned....anyone else have this luck???? Or are the southeast drivers the problem?????
Start driving state highways and US Highways off the Interstates. UNless you like looking at the back of 18-wheeler's trailers all day. RVs are for recreation, not bus driving on Interstates/Tollways. See the real America.....get off the lousy Interstates.

We use to do the 500 mile plus trip in one day from E. Az. to San Diego all the time.Too hard on the body and equipment. Just finished the same trip last week. Went 260 miles, stayed in Gila Bend Az. at a overnighter, full hook ups $19 and finished the trip the next day arriving about 1pm. Same on the return trip. Much more relaxing and easier on the coach, seeing it was 116 in Gila Bend and most of our trip was thru the desert.

Hey Larry,
You all have a good time up there. We were there last week. We stayed over in Cherokee at Jellystone one week, and then over to Creekside in Pigeon Forge for another week. Was "hot" there. We should have stayed in Cherokee, much cooler. There is a neat little drive just north of you on 32l. It is in the Park. Greenbrier Drive. There is a brown sign there. It is a neat little drive up by a creek. You may want to try it.

You got it. Rural roads have it all over the interstate highways.
1) Narrow lanes
2) Typically no or small berms
3) Hidden intersections signs because brush hasnt been cleared away
4) Blind driveways for some "doo-dah" to back right out in front of you
5) All the small towns with 25-35 MPH zones and some "Buford T Justice"
6) "Grandpa" driving his tractor at 15 MPH; because he is too old to have a drivers license
7) Farm impliments on the road
8) LIVESTOCK on the road when Grandpa's fence gets broken
9) Stop and go "mailmen" typically on a road where its too narrow to ever pass them
10) (You want more??)

Since we began fulltiming, we slowed way down and cut our driving miles as well. Much easier on us. No more than 300 miles a day and/or off the road by 2:00pm. Decreased my stress level big time!

We also gave up the long days and miles for more relaxing trips. I love being able to enjoy the extra time and see more places other than the intended destinations while there is still daylight rather than just arriving, sleeping and leaving the next morning. Enjoy your travels when you can, while you can.
