Does any name-brand manufacturer make a quality, dependable trailer tire in the 235/80-16 size (10 ply load range E) My biggest concern when towing is a blow out and I have little confidence in tires with brand names I have never heard of in 30 years of driving and racing cars.

Goodyear Marathons and Maxis have done we well for years. In not sure about that size. Our county fleet use marathons and they take a beating.

ditto the XPS.

Marathons used to be OK - prior to Chinese mfgr.
Marathons (no matter where made) are NOT in the same league as XPS.

Go to your local tire store. Compare an XPS with anything else.
You *will* understand.

I highly recommend the Michelin XPS Ribs. I had them on my last 5er.
I have Goodyear G614's on sig. 5er and they do great, (they're made in the USA), but "G" rated. I'm hoping Michelin will have a G rated rib by the time I need more tires...

NC Hauler,
I hope you are right, just dropped my 5'er off to put on 4 G614s. The dealer took be out back where he has his TT (I didn't get a chance to see what he runs) and his TVs. He said the G614s were a good choice and I think he is giving me a good deal so I hope they run well. I had one flat and one blowout within 24 hours with our Tow Max. Decided to just replace them all.

Thanks....seems that a good LT tire is fine on a trailer, as long as the load rating is sufficient. My understanding it that the main difference in an ST tire is that is has compounds to resist UV deterioration ? Like most cars dont spend most of their lives in the sun ? I would assume the thinking is that a vehicle tire will wear out before the effects of UV can cause issues, whereas a vehicle trailer tire could stick around for a LONG time. At any rate, The Rib sounds like what I want.

Ken, the Goodyear G614's are a very good tire. They'll do fine for you. When it comes time to replace mine, if Michelin doesn't make a G rated rib, I'll have no problem whatsoever buying 4 more G614's by Goodyear....with ONE stipulation, they HAVE to STILL be made in the good ole USA.
