Hi, just posted a question about possibly selling our RV because we are moving to Calgary. For those who live out there or visit there, I would like to bring my 17' aluminum boat, are there places to fish with a boat? I know there is plenty of fly fishing so that's great, but will the boat collect dust in the garage? I'm a HUGE downrigger salmon angler here in ON and will miss that but can only imagine the possibilities for fishing and hunting in Calgary. We are flying out this Friday to look at houses in Southern Calgary as well as in Airdrie.
Thanks for any help.
Jason.

Unless it is a real financial burden, I would encourage you to keep your rv. There are numerous camping opportunities. Many lakes, ponds, rivers where boat would be useful.

There are tons of lakes around calgary, boating is a big thing here you can find some 30' sailboats on our lakes.I would bring both RV and boat.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I think Alberta in general and southern Alberta in particular is probably the worst place possible to try to use a boat on the prairies. All you are going to find are a few dammed up reservoirs - very few real lakes - and what you do find is apt to be wide open and wind swept.
We use our boat hard in SK and BC but generally just jump over AB because it isn't worth stopping.

Uhhm... what about lake diefenbaker, isn't that a piece of flooded prairie??
If you go about an hour north of Calgary there are lots of REAL lakes just look at the map.you can't mis them.

Fearnofish,
Welcome! We live in Airdrie and love it! Keep the RV and boat. Just about everyone has an RV and many have boats. Everyone out here RVs every summer weekend. You won't find a better province for camping with mountains west, prairie east, southern ranchland and northern beauty. Lots of fishing within a day's drive. My bet is if you sold your RV and boat that you will be purchasing new ones within a year. PM if you need more info on Airdrie.

Quote: Minnesota bills itself as the “land of 10,000 lakes.” As the serious fisherman among you will know, Saskatchewan contains an astonishing 100,000 lakes. The aptly named Deep Bay on Reindeer Lake is the deepest body of water in the province. The 220-metre-deep, near circular bay was formed more than 100 million years ago by a giant meteorite. According to Saskatchewan Tourism, the northern half of the province is home to one of the largest concentrations of fly-in fishing camps in the world. In 2007, the world’s largest rainbow trout was pulled from Lake Diefenbaker.
