I strongly suggest you start by looking at coaches in your local market, especially if you have RV dealers in your area. Do this with the intention of research, not buying. Once you've spent a lot of time at RV dealers, poking around, asking questions and test driving various models, you'll have enough knowledge to figure out what it is you really want. As suggested in several posts already, don't make any snap decisions, don't let the sales people pressure you and above all, when you do figure out for sure what you want, stop, re-evaluate your decision and ask yourself what you missed.

The best advice we got on this forum, which saved us a lot of headache and cash is this:

"Buy your last coach first."

We did and are happy we spent 3 months searching. We bought from a private seller on e-bay and still have the best deal we've ever seen, hands down.

We are looking for a replacement RV and have found two online (with dealers) that we are interested in. We have responded using their "online questions" features and asked for more details about the units.

It is like pulling teeth from a tiger. They WILL NOT answer questions, and if they do it is a partial answer to one of the questions and totally useless.

The GCWR and GCVR and CCC must be STATE SECRETS because you simply cannot extract that information from the dealer/salesmen.

You ask "has it been in an accident" and the reply is "doesn't look like to me". HUH? Ask if it has a clean vehicle history report and get no answer. Ask for the VIN, get no answer. Ask if it has a split bath, get no answer.

Don't these guys want to sell their units? What is the problem? Both these units happen to be with camping world dealers. Is that the problem?

A third unit, I asked for the GCWR and GVWR and CCC and they sent me the actual weight from the title. This unit has been extensively modified. HUH? What good is that number?

I am sick of dealers already and I havent even met one.

Is there a way to actually get your questions answered when you look at an rv?

Most will just tell you what they think you want to hear - if they answer at all. JMHO

Yes....Sadly the answer is to look for your self.
I never rely on "SALES PERSONS"

Chuck you need to start by asked someone that knows this info. Google is the best place and the factory websites often have this information.

Sales people get paid when they collect your money. Some know a lot but sharing that often leads to objections and that is just something the salesman then has to overcome.

Most email inquires are not interested in purchasing and many sales people just flip them off.

Sorry you were disappointed but do not let that stop you from learning what you need to know. JUST do not look to a dealer to answer those kinds of questions.

Gale is so right. When we looked at buying our current rig, we did lots of looking and homework on our own. Sometimes (not always) we knew more about the products than they did. We even met folks who weren't really sure what things like "CCC" even ment. Good luck, you will find the perfect rig for you.

If the location of the dealers were known, perhaps someone on this site would be able to look at the units and report back on the vin numbers and other information. "The South" is south of what? Maine, Georgia, OK, Nevada or where?

I worked with a dealer over email for my current coach. I was very specific about what I wanted, and when I found one advertised online, I contacted the dealer by email. They had an "internet sales" department, when meant they had a guy that was a little geeky.

I found that I could get all of my questions answered by asking for pictures. On my first contact, the sales guy asked if I wanted to see any other pictures - that he would take them and email them to me. To answer my CCC question, I just asked him to take a picture of the "paper stuck inside the bathroom cabinet". He sent me maybe two dozen pictures during our correspondence.

We drove down to the dealer (3.5 hrs away) and spent time in the coach, drove it for quite a while, and signed the papers. We had even decided on a price before I got there. Sure made things easy.

BTW - not a single phone call prior to going down there. All via email. I suppose the story here is that alternative communication is possible - if you find the right dealer to do it with.

I agree with most of the above comments. However, not providing something as simple as the VIN is the sign of simple LAZINESS. I've been in sales for over 25 years as a salesman and an owner and if a customer, and I don't care if it's from the internet, in person or on the phone inquires about a coach I have for sale, you bet your boots one of my salespeople would answer all their questions or go find a job somewhere else, especially in this market climate. If they don't want to answer questions via email then they shouldn't advertise on the net, simple as that..(rant over)...Pick a coach, or coaches, with a floorplan(s) you can live with, then start your search in earnest..JMO...Dennis

Some car dealers (and I'm sure RV dealers) figure the internet is just another means of casting a net (like radio or newspaper ads) with the objective of getting you physically in the door so that the real pressure can be applied.

I think Dennis's got it right, call and ask the questions but since they haven't established any sort of trust relationship with their actions so far I'd ask them to confirm anything they tell you over the phone with an email. Anybody can say anything on the phone.

My experiance when we bought ours was that while the salesman was a real nice guy he did not havve a clue about the coach he was selling us. I asked how many gears my tranny had he said 4 (it is 6) asked about milage he said (15 is 7) which i found to be more realistic. Service Advisors were a litle better about knowing the product but not a lot i asked about bubbles in paint just minor problem (coach went back to four winds for new sides was delaminating and the list goes on but by now we have taken 2 weekend trips and nothing has gone wrong first time (except for a screw that wont stay in)

Call them on the phone. That's what I did and I faxed the build/option sheet with my exact wants to 4 or 5 dealers in the south and east. I ended up doing some bargaining on the phone. Drove to NY. Placed a $1000 deposit on a factory order on my credit card. They never even saw my trade in (they use the book for trade in value) until I drove it up a month later. Coach took 3 months to build. It was delivered to NY. We drove up, paid the remaining balance by personal check and drove 200 miles back home. 3 dyas later drove the coach to FL for the winter. Titled the coach 8 months later in PA. A painless process.
