I keep getting a pop-up message that Firefox has an update, 3.0.1 that I need to download. But, it also says some Extensions and Themes may stop working. Has anyone downloaded this update, and why should we do something that is going to cause us troubles especially if the current Firefox is working fine without any problems. The last time I up-graded my Spysweeper I had problems with my e-mail for days until I discovered the problem and disabled part of the Sypsweeper. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I upgraded mine to 3.0.1.
I did lose my "FasterFox"
They claim that it was no longer needed with the new revision.
What I did lose was my ability to see the speed of my page uploads.
I use that to monitor the performance of the site.
I had to load FireBug and Yslow in order to get it back.
Other than that, it seems to be faster than it was before.
No other problems but you will lose those extensions.
You will have to make that decision for yourself if they are really necessary or are there any equivalents available.

Wagonmaster - this is a pretty common message. I find that the "big" add-ons like NoScript that have large followings are updated nearly on par with Firefox - this is because Firefox always prereleases beta versions to the developers. For some of the "smaller" add-ons, major updates may take a few weeks for them to catch up.

I wouldn't worry too much because your browser should work regardless. You just may loose a favorite extra feature for a short while - and chances are there is a replacement out there that has been updated already.

Thanks for all the responses. Admin- my only problem with trying to fix something is I usually don't know what needs fixing let alone how to fix it. I can e-mail and read all the forums, that's about the limit of my computer expertise.
Retired Phone Man - I read the reasons on the Firefox web site you listed. Only problem is I had no idea what most of the reasons were talking about. Guess I better stay put.
Thanks again you all.

If you don't know what needs fixing and everything is working, then ain't nothing broke.

FF3.1 is fine with me.

Is that a typo or are you running a beta? Last night I checked for updates and found one and all I got was 3.0.1. Which btw, did not break anything (yet).

There are Release Candidate versions available here:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/3.1a1-candidates/
Build 1 and 2 and select Win32 executable version for the full installation program.
Keep links like this and track back using the parent directory - you can always find good stuff this way thru these ftp sites.

There are lots of links claiming to speed up FF but I found few are anything you can actually see.

This will depend on what version you are currently using. If you are using FF2 (any revision) and upgrading to FF3 you will very likely lose some add-ons and themes.

If you are upgrading from FF3 (any revision) to another FF3 you probably wont have a problem.

In summary, the updates to major versions FF2 > FF3 is where you lose compatibility.
