I have the BFG 285/75R16 E rated tires on my truck and they have been really good. In fact I am going to have to get another set here shortly.

But you really need to think about wheel selection, when I first bought these tires I mounting them on a set of Centerline wheels rated at 3200 lbs a wheel. Worked fine for a few years until one day I got a slow leak in one of the rear wheels when towing. I figured it was just a nail or something, but it turns out the wheel split on the inside, about a 3" hairline crack. I've also seen recent issues with the Weld wheels cracking across the spokes. I finally ended up going with the Alcoa wheels, they are rated at 3450 lbs, and I must say the aluminum in these wheels is far superior to any other wheel I have owned.

My last comment has to do with airing down, if you think you will ever have to air down you will not want to go with a bigger wheel. When you go with the larger dia. wheels you lose the sidewall, thus you will not get the same floatation effect as you would with the 16" wheels. I see it all the time down at Pismo, nice looking truck pulls in with a trailer and gets stuck, then needs someone like me to pull him out because he can't air down.

BFG's here. They have been fantastic tires. So far (knock on wood) no flats.

BFGs here also. No problems.

Replacing with BFGs when they wear out.

I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck. 2005 Chevy 2500 SRW. Tires worked great but wore out faster than I expected. Now they are noisy on the highway. I'll be trying something else this winter when I have to replace them. Pretty much not even a year out of them.

I have stock 245/75R16s on my 2006 Chevy Crew Cab 4x4. I think I can go up to the 285s without any issues.

I just put a set of the Nitto Terra Grapplers on my 05 2500 HD with the stock forged alum rims. I went 285 75 16 E rated. These replaced some 285 75 16 D rated BFG AT's. So far so good, they ride well on the highway and are pretty quiet. My first time pulling will be next week. They were consdierably less $$ than the BFG's and my neighbor who owns a tire shop recommended them over the BFG's for the value. We will see how well they hold up.

I too went with the Michelin LTX A/T 2. These are rated fourth at tirerack, and are installed on my 2000 GMC K3500. I'm olny pulling ~9600-10000lbs, but they are 245/75 R16's, and are load range E rated at 3169lbs per tire. They supposedly beat all of the other tires, BFG included, in this years tire show down.

These 2 links may help. good luck...

Ditto on the Nittos!

I had the Terra Grapplers, worked fine, lasted about 40k. Went to the Dura Grapplers now, more "street" than the Terras and a littler quieter. I'm 2WD so don't need the agressive tread. They handle the weight well. I'm sold on the Nittos, they were recommended by my tire guy, Western Tire in Burbank, GREAT guys if you're in my neighborhood.
