We have reservations at Cypress Lake next week. Has anyone ever stayed there? Just wondering what the sites are like. Ours is specifically for a tent trailer, described as "small" but says you can also have 2 tents/shelters on the site. There was nowhere in the online booking process that listed the dimensions of the sites like on the Ontario Provinical Park booking engine. Do they have nonreservable sites there? There was a specific site that I wanted to reserve but on booking day it was blocked out for the entire season so I'm wondering if it is "out of service" so to speak for this year for regeneration or if it is a nonreservable site.

We have camped there a few times, beautiful park. the camping is a little primitave as in no showers on site, however just south of the park entrance there is a rest stop or gas station with pay showers (never used them as I have my own) they have built new washroom facilities inthe past few years, cleaner and more plesant to the nose, in my opinion the site sizes are a little underated, at least where we stayed which was the middle section, (Birches I think) they seemed a little larger than what they are discribed as, however it is well treed so it can make things apear smaller I guess. although I am not sure wether they have non-reservable sites, was it blocked in red or grey? I doubt they close any for regeneration as they are all dirt from what I seen, and grass probley wont really grow there, and they are extremely busy in the summer. I hope you enjoy hiking and exploring as they have alot of it there, trails for miles, wonder the geogian bay shore north and south, lots of caves and interesting rock formations, while we were there we would take a small back pack with an ice pack, some water and snacks and go for most of the day for several miles, never got bored there.
head up to tobermory for the boat tours, go early in the morning and spend half a day on flour pot island, they drop you off and pick you up, its awsome. singing sands is on the huron side not to far from cypris lake and is a nice day stop, hiking trails and beech. The national park visiters center north of the park is also an interesting stop, museum, hiking, and a observation tower you can see over the entire northern part of the peninsula from.

Thanks for the info. We are going to be in the last campground, closest to Head of Trails, can't remember off hand what the name of it is. We love hiking and can't wait to get on those trails. I would love to do a day trip on the trails but we have a 7 year old who wouldn't go for that! Camping there will allow the teens to go their way (probably to the swimming area by the grotto!) and we can go our way with the younger guy. Glad to hear they have updated the washrooms.
