Very good advice. In your temps, the 15w-50 would be a good choice. I use it despite being in cooler temps.

Onan is concerned about shear down with multi-viscosity dino oils. A multi-vis synthetic doesn't shear down much if any.
By the way there is no such thing as 30w oil----30 weight but not 30w.

It stands for "Winter" not "weight". There is no API (you do know what API stands for, don't you) specifications for a winter grade 30 oil.

Shouldn't your gas alert monitor pick up diesel fumes from the Generator?
mine picks up hair spray, deet and even Pam. I am afraid to break wind as
it might be embrassing if I have guests and try to explain why the alarm
is beeping.

Solid; i have a farm generator that we had to run for 2 weeks in the Jan 07 ice storm didn't worry about it because it never got above freezing and the engine ran cool not to mention it is a 10KW gen so wasn't sure how my one in the motor home will handle it. from the responses i will start it when i get there and shut it down when I leave as far as oil goes i had Mobil 1 put in the engine and the gen before we took it off the lot and the gen only has about 30 hrs total. Thanks all for the info

Baring faulty and I mean FAULTY equiptment (GEN) People, me included don't fall asleep, we GO to sleep with our generators ON. This is how they were intended to be used. To be paranoid and say you would rather be hot then run the genset is absolutly rediculas. If it were common to have people harmed by running their gen's the law suits would probably make it that generators would never be installed in RV's again. Cars crash, do we stop driving ??? how about Lightning ??? I'll bet more people get killed by lightning (some of the highest odds on the planet against getting hit) then generators. Stop being afraid of getting hurt and start enjoying life. Taking REASONABLE precautions is smart but not using a perfectly safe piece of equiptment the way it was intended is rediculas. I was not attacking you personaly, just rebutting an "opinion" or statment that any resonable person would not find remotely acurate. But then again, your afraid of a generator...
I was going to refrain from responding. This will be my last reponse to your posts. I am not afraid of my generator, I do enjoy life. As with being struck by lighting I chose not to go stand under a tree or stand in an open field during a lighting storm. Which means I chose not to run my generator while I sleep. Please feel free to continued to use yours. All you had to state is that you felt it safe to run a generator when you sleep, but you want to bait people into an augument by insulting them ( as I am sure the way you are spelling ridiculous, you want me to insult you so we can take it up a notch) I have reviewed your pervious posts and most are insulting and negative towards people posting. As easy as it is for you to insult people in your posts, it is also easy for myself and others to skip over your posts when I and others see your signature.

It has nothing to do with insulting you or anyone else, that is not the point. First your reply had nothing to do with the original posters question and while you feel you can give your opinion, I can't??? I stated I was not insulting you, but if you are so thin skinned and you take it that way, fine. And its not that I feel its safe, IT IS SAFE. I don't insult people, I like you are entitled to my opinion. I DO have a problem with people spreading fear for no reason AND THAT I FEEL WARRANTS A REPLY. But your fear of running your gen while sleeping is so foolish I don't think anyone will be influenced. Besides I don't run from, but rather like bantering with the whiners and complainers, and fear mongers...
