Yeah, I missed that part too! There is a flap on the outside of the older models & that is where the "tabs" would be, which is where I placed the velcro.

Viewing your photo, that looks like a very different/newer style vent than mine.

I have a friend that we were camping with and he got tired of the noise during a wind storm, and he reached up inside his exhaust vent and ripped the flap out... perhaps a bit excessive?

I also have OCD, but I've named it CDO because all of the letters are now in the correct alphabetical order.

if i could fit my arm up in there i would have ripped it out...my 6 year old daughter is a failure too...she can get her arm in there but cant pull it out, what a wuss...just kidding, just kidding...

headed home now to try to mod it so i can keep my sanity...maybe a dish towel is the key...but can i deal with knowing a dish towel is there...time will tell..

On my 2007 Itasca there is an inside 'flap'(between outside cover&flap and inside fan compartment) that is not readily accessible. By taking off screen and filter over stove was able to put some sticky foam tape on contact edge - still have rattle but not as bad. Am anxiously awaiting any new ideas also. K

I removed about 4 screws and dropped the vent down so I could get to the noisy flapper that is installed on mine. The wife stood by and unplugged the wires for the light. I then used some sticky back felt that is available at the hardware store to place along the contact surface (where they bang close). It no longer makes any noise. The felt comes in different sizes and shapes. You would find this kind of stuff to keep cabinet doors from banging when closing them. About 20 minutes and the pestering rattle is gone.

I haven't used the cook top vent fan since I discovered fantastic fans years ago. Fantastic fan in your ceiling vents remove more air and smoke than the little cook top fan ever will. Pull the exterior screws silicone the flapper shut and forget it. The vent fan in the restroom will move more air and remove cooking smoke and odor better than the cooktop vents will and that's given you have one of those.

Thats my two cents anyway... haven't killed any of my occupants in over two decades of RV'ing

Everybody's assuming that all vents are like their vent. Not so.

Winnebago uses a vent that opens to the inside, is screened on the outside, with no locking tabs, no outside access.

You might remove the grease filter in the hood, reach up past the fan blades to the vent, and pack something behind it to hold it closed. In which case, you want to unplug the fan.

You might take it apart, and glue it closed, permanently. And unplug the vent fan. You might replace it with another brand of vent, either the whole vent fan system, or just the flapper.

I just chose to listen to it. If I understand where a noise is coming from, it doesn't bother me so much.

I have the same problem and my solution isn't eloquent but its simple and does work in my RV .. I stuff a small rag up under the small outside cover which keeps rain from entering the outside vent. The rag keeps air from flowing into the vent and I don't get any noise ... of course you need to remove the rag if you intend to use the vent.

In my case its no big deal and if I use a proper size rag its not really visible unless your looking for it.

Hope this helps.

I also used the rag approach but more recently the outer door cracked and I have it taped up to prevent it from falling apart. Figure I will have to replace it but it sounds like there are no great replacements for this. Everyone seems to be suffering with it except for the folks using the fantastic fans to exhaust their cooking byproducts.
