I have been looking for a good used gas motorhome and from the thousands of units I have looked at online and some in person a 6-8 year old unit is about 50% of new. This is buying from a private individual. Go to a dealer and it is a higher percentage.
I think it really is better to buy new with all the discounts and the fact I will get a warranty and all the changes and new technology that go into every model year.
You get a much better deal buying diesel but for now I will stick to gas.
Any comments on this.

It's the buyer, not the seller, that decides what the unit will sell for.

Upside down could be one. Maybe prices north of the border are stronger. We read of people crossing the border to save a mint on rigs.
Used diesels carry such a risk due the cost of diesel repair if required. That $15K potential DP repair bill just is not a risk many want to take when they are only driving 5K-8K miles a year.
Check out E-Bay in the northern states for deals.

Big reason in Canada is 3 years ago that US built motorhome cost Price/$.65CAD - in otherwords todays Canadian dollars buys more MH than 3 years ago's does. The current $$ is worth more. Go look at a 2007 F350 list price of $66400 for the loaded one (the one I bought, not what I paid) then go price an 2008. About $57K for the "same" truck albeit a new design etc. but still a 1 Ton Ford Pickup with all the toys.
Now that MH that currently costs ~$100K used to cost ~$140K. Talk about being upside down even if you put down a decent amount and had good deal when you bought.

driveby the CD $$$ going to par really did mess with values per your illustration. That is actually deflation I guess in real terms. In that case buying new today could be very attractive.

You must be looking in all the wrong places (that was a song wasnt it?)---cause if you drive down any hwy right now there are MH's sitting along them for sell---more then I can ever remember--I just sold a perfectly good 95 Bounder low miles new everything for $12000---now there are some nut cases out there that think theirs are made out of gold and wont admit they got themselves into trouble and wont take the hit to unload it---but there are those that figured out gas aint gonna come back down so why not unload it now and go on and just want to sell it

Sometimes NEW is the way to go. Your choice of brand, floorplan, features, colors, AND a warranty. I've never bought a used motorhome in my life, and don't plan to. I like to "break the wrapper" of a new one. Sure, I'll suffer the depreciation when I decide to sell it, but a savvy buyer doesn't necessarily have to take a big hit. It cost me less than $5300 in depreciation to drive a new Winnebago Journey over 19,000 miles. It's difficult to accomplish that with a car, let alone a motorhome! Plus, my biggest pet peeve about buying used: All that dated brocade upholstery now smells like Aunt Esther's incontinent cat, and the one that's 'never been smoked in' sure does come with a funny smell as well. If you feel like it, BUY NEW. Life is short -- enjoy!.........

I woun't buy new again. You count on the unit being right , at least after the third or fourth time to the dealer and the Mfg's are hard to deal with. If you buy used most of the kinks are out of it and if not you just fix it yourself but you don't pay to have it right and then have to fix it yourself.
