Flash floods hit Ashland NH area and a 7 year old died as the car she was in was flipped and washed away in Ames Brook Campground. Parents and a sibling survived. Our prayers go out to the family.

OMG!! How absolutely horrible... I hate to hear news such as this! Esp when there is a young child involved -- so heartbreaking! My prayers definitely go out to that poor family... May they find the strength to get this most difficult time!!! And also so that everyone else in that area remain safe!!
I'm going to go now and kiss my 7 yr old DD that I spent the day yelling at.. .. and just be thankful she is here with us!! News such as this gives you a reality check, doesn't it.
SAFE & HAPPY TRAVELS!

Our rig is at that campground right now, but in back and up on higher ground. There is no electricity and my hubby is there emptying out the fridge. We have been there for a month and were due to leave this weekend. My heart goes out to that whole family who planned on having a fun camping vacation when this tragedy struck. My prayers are also with the campground owners who are very nice people.

Absolutely devastating. Why oh why were they trying to cross a culvert during a thunderstorm? That decision will live with them for the rest of their lives.

We are devastated to hear about this...we were just at Ames Brook last weekend, on a site directly on the brook. The water was only ankle/shin deep and it was beautiful. It rained Saturday night and we noticed the runoff coming down the road through our site and into the brook,so we all just went in our camper and watched a movie, not thinking much of it. I cannot believe the water raged so terribly just 4 days later and took this little girl's life. I am completely saddened by the whole story; could hardly sleep last night thinking about that poor family and the people camping who had to witness and experience everything. I'm also sad for the CG owners. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and all those who are dealing with the devastation of the flooding.

This is tragic. We've all camped near streams or rivers and wondered "what if."
Could happen to anyone. Flash floods are not common, so folks don't understand the POWER that a flooded stream or flooded road can have.
Situations like this get out of control quickly -- even if you are aware of what might happen. Very sorry for the family.

Very sad to hear about that. The little girl was from my state (RI). My wife and I were in that area about an hour before the storm hit, saw some of the rain on our way back to our campsite in North Conway. This was an unusual storm for the area, it dumped 2 or more inches in less than half an hour and caused many flash floods, road washouts and flooded homes. I am sure the father was trying to do the prudent thing by trying to get to higher ground and had no idea the little brook could rise in a few minutes the way it did. People from Ashland to Laconia were affected and a large number of roads were closed due to flooding and washouts.
My heart goes out to the family, so sad.
