I'm looking at 05-06 Expeditions and some have tow packages and some dont. The ones without have a lot of other options I do like while the ones with tow packages are pretty barebones. I am pretty handy with a wrench so my question is, does anybody know what it would take to convert an Expy without a towing package to one with a towing package? Is it a matter of swapping the rear gears, adding a tranny cooler and the wiring? Would the gear swap require any computer reprogramming? I am going this afternoon to look at like 12 so it might help in me picking one up today. The wife would really like one of the Eddie Bauer models and if is is only going to take me a weekend to make it up to the task of the full 8900lbs then I'd rather get the nicer model.

Almost all the Eddie Bauers AWD have the tow package. I had a hard time findin g a 2wd when we bought our 2004.
You should be able to find several with $4 gas and such.

I know that on my 2008, the tow package includes a bigger radiator as well. That might be a bit more involved.

If I remember, which can be questioned these days, my F150 tow package also included a larger capacity alternator.

safe travels,

Wow maybe in Texas - there was an 05 Eddie Bauer (with 51,000 miles) and they wanted 17,985 + 1800 tags and taxes and inspection and all. They did not want to budge in anyway. To make matters worse, they offered me 6,000 for a trade in. We walked and they didn't even try and stop us.

The Expy tow package includes larger alternator, transmission cooler, 7-pin harness, factory installed hitch receiver and is pre-wired for a brake controller (harness plugs in).
