I am looking at buying a 2008 K-Z Sportster 33P fifth wheel, This will be my first toy hauler so I am new to all of this. Please help me out before I make this purchase. I will be pulling this with a 05 GMC 2500 with a 6.0(gas), auto transmission and 4.10 rear end. I will be using it for racing motocross. I know I want a built in generator but what brand and size? What all should I be looking at for this toy hauler? Sorry I don't know much about these trailers. Any and all help would be great. This is the trailer I am looking at, Please tell me what I should pay for this trailer. http://www.postrv.com/database/inventory_item.asp?id=292686

Try getting in touch with Family Camping Outlet in Pottstown, PA if you are on the eastern side of PA. That is where we bought our 35px2 and are happy with the service we have gotten from them. They will answer your questions. The difference between the 33 and 35 is the 35 has a bedroom slide and the 33 doesn't.

You will most definitely want a generator. The factory onan that we have works great. I can run two A/C units and anything else we need to. Make sure that you get all the options you want before you purchase. The fuel station is a must and the larger hot water heater. PM me if you have any other questions about KZ. We love ours. Read all the options if you haven't already at

I looked at the 33P myself and nearly bought it until a friend made one very important observation. While KZ makes a very fine product there is virtually zero outside storage. You owe it to yourself to take that in to careful consideration. Most 5ers have storage under the bathroom and bedroom, KZ does have huge pass thru storage on 37 and up but they leave that out of the 35 and 33. You will need and want this outside storage for all the tools and items that you can't put in the kitchen and under the dinette. Unless you are planning on adding storage in the garage, I'm certain you will be very frustrated.

As for the genny, get an Onan 5.5, it's twin cylander design is quieter and has much less vibtation than the 4.0 Onan does.

I own an early 08 KZ 33P. Love the trailer. Pulls well. There is not much outside storage. But if you look at how much you take and how much you use you may find out you don't need all you take. I have lots of stuff I take but don't use which is going to change after this last weekend. I watched a guy this weekend with tons of storage hardly use any of what he had stuffed in his outside storage area. I fit in 2 quads, a small compressor, 2 bicycles, 3 boxes of wood and a three foot tall tool box with pretty much what I need.If you don't have kids the loft is a great storage area. We get by very well. Pull it with an 06 Ford dually. No issues what so ever. KZ make a good trailer and back up what the make. Every maker has issues. Some are just worse than others. Good luck with your decision but I know I made the right one with the comments I get camping. Alan

I agree on the Onan 5.5. I question wether you will be happy in the short or long run trying to pull that trailer with the gas truck you referred to. If you can, you will want to get a diesel. Trade that gasser for a Duramax and you will be much happier if you can.

Good luck!

I have a 2005 KZ 33, and they are a decent trailer. I would not pull it with any V8 gasser though, especially a 6.0. The generator would sit in the front storage compartment, and that would just about eliminate any outside storage room on that unit.

One thing to watch on those KZ trailers are the junk tires they sometimes put on them. Mine came with Freestars, two of them have gone bad (splits and tread separations) and I don't trust the other two. TireCo, the tire importer, replaces them when they go bad. Make sure you get a good name-brand tire from the KZ factory, even if it costs a bit more.

Why all the gasser bashing on this thread?

No problem pulling my 36' fiver with an 8.1L gasser. It's not going to win any races up steep hills, but it does the job.

Now the 6.0L... that's a different story...

Although not the particular model your looking at, we do own a KZ and are very pleased with it, the quality is very nice and we got great support from our dealer and directly from KZ as well. We are very proud KZ owners.
