All rightie here, lets answer the question re have you seen the new add? not getting into a flaming war about which has more HP/torque, use of motors ie the diesels that are not being talked about in the add......at least I will assume the add is disCUSSing gas V8 motors, and not diesels! as I have to my knowledge not seen the adds. Altho I did see some knd of GM add on NBC while watching the Olympics, but wife paid more attention to it than I did!

C'mon guys, ADS! For heavens sake these are the same people that put those ads out there for all to laugh at showing a truck hauling a tug-boat out of the ocean or a water tower a mile away falls down because someone hooked to a water pipe floored his pick-up!
Real world performance has absolutely nothing to do with what we may see on the tube. Just watch CNN or Fox for about 5 minutes to get a practical demonstration of the veracity of Television info.

Thoughts?
I think it's a great ad, focuses in on what people are concerned about-fuel mileage and the fact with this criteria that GM is at the top of the heap. But at the same time indicates that it is still a great truck, with truck attributes such as towing, power, truck toughness.
Back to fuel mileage. I believe that the government testing and advertising fuel mileage , ie; vehicle descriptor on the side window of new vehicles, attests to GM V8's, particularly the 4.8 and 5.3 as getting better mileage, than similarly displacement V8's from the competitors.
Yes mileage on the sheet, doesn't probably reflect your experience, but then the point is, in the govt. test where all vehicles with similar engines, weight, type that are tested...the GM smaller V8's come out at the top. So it's relative, chances are that if you drive a GM with small V8, you will get better mileage than one of the others. all other factors being equal.
Whether you believe what an ad has to say or not, this ad is quite good. In a very brief time frame, it encapsulates the chief concern or many truck buyers...fuel mileage and then quickly and clearly indicates why a GM truck should be considered.
People that own GM's will probably accept the 'veracity' of the info in this ad. Others with other makes, who are disgruntled with their make of truck, will be open to 'thinking' about another make, in this case, GM is hoping GM.
Mission accomplished.

I think they should have made a harder poke at Toyota for the way Toyota brags in recent Tundra ads about their "Toyota gas mileage." The Chev 5.3 beats BOTH Toyota V8s for gas mileage. Toyota hopes you just assume the Japanese truck does better without checking!

I think Chevy does get better fuel mileage than others.
Case in point:
Wife's truck is 2006 Chevy EC SB 4.8L auto 3.23 = 19-20 mpg commuting
My new 2008 Dodge QC SB 4x4 Hemi auto 3.92 = 16-17 mpg commuting (truck only has 300 miles on it).
But, my truck being 4x4 sits almost a foot higher and rides on 20" wheels vs. sitting low and small 17" wheels.
I do honestly believe my truck is "easier" to drive because it never downshifts on any hills, where her truck is always doing the gear "hunt" in the hills. Both with the cruise control set for 65 mph.
2008 Dodge 1500 QC SB 4x4 Hemi Auto 3.92
2006 Chevy 1500 EC SB 4.8L auto 3.23
1994 Chevy 350 auto
Looking for a small TT to continue RV'ing
