If you stay under the tire and axle ratings of your truck, you will be fine. Don't be discouraged by some of the negative posts.
I've seen guys pulling 5ers with their 1-tons and duallys, running 75 mph, only 5 feet off the bumper of a passenger car in front of them, and your supposed to be a danger because your over the GVWR by a few hundred pounds. Please......I'm not saying you should completely ignore the weight limits of your truck, but the real danger is the person behind the wheel...

True...and the numbers on the door will keep you out of trouble if you adhere to what the engineers on the manufacturer's payroll decide are safe for that particular vehicle.
And when some of you figure out the differences on some of these 3/4, 1 ton's and get your head out of the sand and off of your soapbox and do your homework and give the poor smuck some good advice instead of screaming there should be a law or stay off the road if I am on it, or let me know where you are at so I can stay away. I know you probably won't answer this ,but the difference between my truck 99 Superduty 7.3 1 ton and the same truck except 3/4 ton is leaf springs, but say my weight rating is okay for 12k , but that same truck in 3/4 is not, what would you tell me if I came on here and said I have this 3/4 ton and changed out my leaf springs to a one ton and want to tow 12k ??? My door sticker says it won't ,but with the extra leafs the truck will have the same rating, but the wrong sticker on the door and emblems on the fender will I be safe.

I went through this also a while back. Let me tell you this, if you're not driving a Peterbuilt, Mack, or Freightliner rig you got nothing on this site. I was told also "HELL NO", "NO WAY", "You're going to kill someone". I understand if you ask for an opinion you will get many of them you don't like or don't want to hear. However, I've pulled mine since I bought about 500 miles with no problems and no problems braking. Look at what you got and make a smart informed decision based on your numbers, not others!! Happy Camping

Don't let them get to you. They do this to all of us.
I was told we were over weight with our 2 ton diesel! Told we were over weight with our 3/4 ton diesel with 5,000 pound helper springs installed!
Don't take it personally. I hope you continue to post here. There are some really nice people on here, who will give some good advice.

I have no problem hitting any speed over mountain passes getting 15-18 miles per gallon. Someone please tell me (besides an RV or truck Dealer) how big of a 5er I can pull (how many slides or length or weight). I want to get as big a 5er I can for the $50,000 I have invested in the Deluxe Dodge Ram.
Thanks

Are you seriously saying that you get 15 to 18 mpg pulling your fiver over mountains? If so, & you can document it, it's time for me to trade my Silverado Duramax in. How do you compute your mpg? The only accurate way is to start with a completely full tank, drive across these mountains, refill the tank & divide the miles run by the gallons of diesel to refill the tank. Do this over a few tanks of fuel & you'll get a true mpg & I'll bet it's nowhere near 15 to 18 mpg towing, even on level ground.

We got the same lously replies before we got our fifth wheel. We also got a few good ones so thats why we are still on this forum. We have a 2500hd chevy duramax and a 3400 Bighorn rl. We are safe and can stop fine. You should be fine with a similiar size Montana, Hitchhiker, Cedar Creek, etc. I wouldn't go with a 38 or 40 foot fifth wheel. Or one of the heavier "full time rigs", but you should be fine up to 14-15000 pounds. We did put timbrens on and that's about it.
We have pulled over nine mountain passes including Sylvan pass into Yellowstone. 18000 miles and no exessive wear on anything.
We are legal up to 260000 pounds, combined, and you are too so ignore most of the above posts.
We get 11.5 mpg towing, so you will lose some mpg probably.
As another poster mentioned your real limiting weight is your tires.
Another way to find out what you can pull is to go to owner websites Heartland owners, montana owners, etc, and look at their rigs.
Clear skies and feel free to pm me if you have any questions so you can avoid the negative people.

You expect an answer good luck. I have taken issue with them on this 3/4 1 ton issue for quite some time, they ignore the facts or fail to do there homework and give advice on some good hard facts instead of reading door stickers, but that is the easy way to see there name in lights so to speak. I will never tell someone they can tow overweight, but there are options, and I won't tell someone like some do a dually and a dodge is the only way they can go because fords are ugly.Thats great information.
