I am going to get my 16 year old daughter a bigger quad for this season.
She outrides her Suzuki LT 160 now. She's only ridden a 1/2 dozen times or so.
What's the biggest you'd recommend for this next quad?? A 250 300 or 400 4 stroke.
Thanks

16? Get her a 350 or 400... If she can "outride" the 160, then should should know how to control a throttle... or get her on 2 wheels!

I'd skip the 250 class and go for the 400's. My son only lasted a cpl months on his 250 before wanting something bigger.

I wouldn't go any less than a 400 and possibly larger. There are many leftover 400 to 700, 2007 and 2008 models, so you can get a nice and larger machine for a little less than you may think.

Sorry have to disagrre on this one. The kid has ridden half a dozen times on a 160, a 400 should be the limit til she gets some seat time.

My daughter is a little older, 27, but pretty small. About 5 foot 5. Pretty slender, used to be very athletic but has slowed down some in her old age. She started out on a Polaris Scrambler 500 this past March and also rides the Polaris Sportsman 700 X2. Almost always on fire roads, not trails.
Both of her cars are sticks. I would have thought she would have liked a manual for the ATV, but she likes not having to shift.
I would not consider 500 to be too big. A 700 two seater is big.
We are all new at this.

I weigh .. well, alot and I ride a 400. It has plenty of power for me and I have a blast at Pismo on it. My .02 says she doesn't need anything more, you'll save some money over a 450, and she'll have a reverse gear.

Can she handle a clutch? If so, get a 400. If she needs the automatic clutch, then the 250 is the way to go. We used to own a LT 160. It was good for kids, but has a marginal suspension. My two boys now have a Suzuki LTZ400 and the Suzuki LTZ250. Either of those quads is far superior to the LT 160 – much better performance and suspension.
If you go with a 400 I would get a 400EX if you are on a tight budget. If you are going to buy something newer, the Suzuki LTZ400 is hard to beat.

Honda 250EX, AUTO SPORT CLUTCH!
Very easy to ride , dependable, especially for a girl that has only ridden 1/2 dozen times, the sport clutch also helps them learn how to use a clutch.
Both of my grandaughters have them.
