Hello folks,
I know topic has been disussed many times, and I have read enough posts to know that I want to have the Onan resonator installed on my 1997 Roadtrek 190 Popular, as the generator is WAY too NOISY!!

I just called Camping World, as my RT will be there on Saturday, to see if they could install one for me while it's there. They didn't seem to know what I was talking about, and wanted the spec # from my generator so they could order a 'part'. Of course I dont' have that here at work, and will have to go home to find it (where would I find that????)

I also called my local muffler shop locally, and they didn't want to even talk to me about it .. they said 'call an RV dealer'.

Any suggestions for me?

you have to realize that I don't 'speak the speak'.

I asked specifically for an "Onan Generator Exhaust Resonator".

I am in Ontario, but visit Michigan often, and will be at the Camping World in Belleville MI on Saturday. Any suggestions??

thanks so much!
Malu

My sugestion would be to call camping world in belleville and get the number to the cummins/onan repair shop that CW has the work done at and then make your own apointment with cummins/onan directly. It is not very far from the belleville CW location. My experiance with the belleville location has been that very little is done at that store. They mainly just do maintance items. I had to have a wiper arm piviot replaced (very small part would have changed it myself but it was covered) and they sent the RV to another shop to have it replaced. JMO

I think they told me the name was "Cummins/onan Bridgport" last time I asked.

Get the part from Cummins / Onan. They'll need to order it, almost surely. Then have a local independent muffler shop do the install. You'll need to tell the parts counter guy that it's for a 2800 Onan, and it may help if you tell him it looks like atiny version of an old '60's Cherry Bomb glass pack muffler. The muffler shop should cut a section out of the Onan tailpipe, and weld this in its place. I've done two. The parts cost has varied, but was around $50 US. The part number may be on Rodger's website.

OH, that's great!! I'll call them and order it. Do you think I'll need the spec# or could I call today and tell them it's for a 2800??

um, Handbasket - I can just see the reaction now when I come out with 'Oh, ya...sure, ya know..it's the one that looks like a cherry bomb'!!!!!

I'll check Rodger's website now to see if I can find the part number.

and seriously - a regular muffler shop can do this?

thanks everyone!

Yes give them a call. They have been very helpfull when I had to call to get a muffler for mine.
There web sight is also great if you know your gens. model number.
Any muffler shop "should" be able to do it but the question, as always, WILL THEY DO IT.
Its worth a few phone calls.

Don't be too disappointed when you find out it doesn't really help the noise very much. Most of the noise is mechanical and not exhaust. Among other things the cooling fans are noisy.

Really Jim? After reading about Rodger's resonator addition, it sounds like it should quiet it down by 25%. Mine is so loud I can't stand to be around it. I would never use it like it is, and that is why I made the decision to buy that particular Class B, because it has one!

I see there are other steps... a tripp something or other (Sorry forgot the term now) and one of those pipes that directs the exhaust up and over the RV for when you're parked.

I'd be glad to hear from someone who's done these things!
thanks,
Malu

P.S. I'm going to call Bridgeway now and see what they say. Thanks "Your Majesty"
