Hi,
I hava a 30 ft, 98, Allegro, 454fi, no slide. We just returned from a 3 month trip out west, level and mountains, avg. 7.5 at 55/60.
We don't spend much time in it, as we like to; hike bike, ride, etc.
Really happy with size, mpg,performance.
Hopp you enjoy what ever you get.

You can find some great buys out there. My brother-in-law just bought an 05 Hurrican 30' with no slides, jacks or camera with 8000 mi. for under
$29000. A very inexpensive entry to motorhoming.

I have a 30' coachman mirada 2000 ford v10 no slides total weight at the scales is 13,500lbs. Using a Scanguage II I've seen as low as 6.9 mpg while towing a honda civic at 65mph. I've seen as high as 11mpg while doing 55mph not towing. I think you will find if you count on 8mpg you will be about right.

Wow, interesting the gas mileages - I have a 93 Winnebego Adventurer 34' with a Chevy 454 (8 cyl) and I average 10 mpg (and I'm not exactly a slow driver). I chuckle because it was the same engine I had in my Suburban (3/4 ton) and get the exact same mileage!
Just thought I'd throw that out.

We have a 30' 98 Itasca with a 99 Ford F53 V-10 under it (with no slides). It has over 81,000 miles on it & we've put 28,000 of those miles on ourselves in the past 3.5 years. Neither we nor the previous owner have had any real problems with it (previous owner wishes he had it instead of the new unit he bought). My overall MPG have been 8.45 (with lots of mountains see map). As far as slides are concerned it is according to what space you need (there is only two of us usually). I would like to see a little more space in the bedroom but just another foot in bedroom length would satisfy me.
With that said, based on what I've read on this & other forums, if I had known then what I know now I probably would have looked for a 2001+ model with the Ford V-10. Ford made some improvements in the transmission & engine that many have indicated produced a better product.
Good luck in your search.

2000 GBM 30' on the Ford F53 w/ V10.
Basic - no slides.
Love the rig. (Staying in it, driving it, and working on it!)
Easy to handle and easy to maintain.
Bought it right and then upgraded tires, shocks, maintainence items & handling equipment.
I manually keep track of MPG on every tank - pull a strong 8-10 under most conditions.
I think these basic 30' rigs (most mfgs have pretty much the same layout), in that 2000+ year range are a great bang for your buck nowadays!
Take your time, Look around, find a good deal & enjoy!
Good Luck!

My 2002 Damon Daybreak 2750 Workhorse 8.1 gets about 8 MPG. We have put some 72,000 on it since we bought. No serious problems, starter quit this week, but I think that could have happened anytime.
I doubt that we could fulltime in it, but it is nice for a couple weeks at a time.

Using my scanguage II I find it entertaining to try and get the max MPG while driving. What I have found is if you use cruise control on anything but flat grade, you will get much less MPG. Anytime you hear the transmittion shift to a lower gear your MPG goes from 9-10 to 1.5-2.5.
