I have a 2007 Lexington 283GTs. Nine months after purchase it
developed leaks in 2 of the three slides which were repaired
in Elkhart by Forest River. A trip of over 1000 miles from home.
Forest River covered hotel and car rental for my stay there over
3 days. They did not cover meals or gas.(I was alone)
Now I have a really bad leak somewhere between the front cap and
the roof perhaps even where the awning is bolted into the RV. It
is so bad that water has leaked into the cab headliner. The
entertainment center wood is soaked and the roof above the dinette
is wet and the wood behind it is rotten. The smell of mold and
mildew is getting stronger. I purchased a large dehumidifer which
runs constantly. I have caulked where I think the leak is and it has
slowed considerably. The Forest River dealer abour 200 miles from me
said that he was sorry but it is out of warranty. (purchased Oct 2,2006) You would thing that a major structural component like the roof would be coverd longer than that. I have sent a letter to the
Good Sam action line and am waiting to hear from them, they seem to think I have a case.
Has anyone else out there had this kind of trouble with you Lex and
if so what was the resolution?
Thanks

I suspect that this will be moved to the C forum, where it belongs (a B with three slides? Please. ), but a thought....
Park it under cover, or get a tarp over it while you argue with
FR. Or take it to the dealer, and pay to have it fixed. Then hopefully you can get reimbursed. The owner has some responsibility to prevent further ongoing damage, no matter who's ultimately responsible. It's in your best interest. And it'll be easier to get $1000 out of them for a roof repair now than $5000 for the same plus a partial interior rebuild later, after the leak does more damage.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear of your problem. Keep after Lexington and make them stand up to the plate. Sounds like your problem was from the get go. My unit is a 2003 Jayco 31A Escapade and this fall Jayco will take it back to the factory for a complete top replacement and possible drivers side. To explane, I had a small leak and after many inspections and a window replacement the roof to sidewall seam was the problem. In 2003 Jayco went to a TPO roof instead of the rubber roof to try to stop cauking down the sides from the rubber. The TPO has a fiber backing and at some of the screw attachments along the sidewall to roof connection they weeped water in under the roof. After an inspection at the dealers to make sure i did nothing to the unit, Jayco authorized the dealer to open up the suspect areas and report to them. I received a call from Jayco that they will take the motorhome to the factory to replace the complete top and sidewall if nessary at no cost to me. Here it is 2008 and Jayco is doing this for us. You know when i decide to replace my present unit i will be dealing with Jayco and only Jayco. Denny

If you want to wait for Lexington, then keep it dry in the meantime.
Otherwise, have someone due one of the "overpressure" type leak detections. They will slightly overpressure the inside of your rig and either use smoke or a soapy liquid to detect leaks. Very accurate - will find EVERY leak, and at the true source where water may come in from outside.
You can even do this yourself, supposedly. Close up everything and run a vent fan blowing air into the rig. Go over every possible leak point(seams, windows, etc.) with a soapy liquid just like you would for detecting propane leaks. I have no idea if you'll actually get enough air pressure for this to work or not, as I have not yet tried it.

First check the satelite cable going into the roof. Then make sure the seam around the roof cap has not opened up. Welcome the wonderful world of Lexington! Mine was at factory for six weeks getting "repaired" And yes , it still leaks.
