Doctors have little or no training in nutrition. They are trained to get you well after you are sick. They are not trained on how to keep you well. I had a friend in Nashville, TN who was a professor of microbiology. He told me that they had no training in nutrition.
God Bless!

I will agree with this...

Most doctors are not trained for diet or supplements and are more happy with a sick population since healthy people make less doctor appointments.

Well . . . yes and no.
I don't think they get much if any training on nutrition in medical school, especially not in nutrition as preventative medicine. But some doctors who have an interest in it educate themselves about it.
FWIW, the same is true of veterinarians.

I think the key there is the balanced diet thing. I think it's fair to guess that not many of us have a truly balanced diet.
Exactly what I was going to say. I KNOW I don't eat right so thru the years I periodically tried to take a multivit. Was not always successful in remembering to do so consistently...presently on a kick to take that and calcium and some other stuff and seem to be sticking to it this time around. I do see a physical/mental difference.
Know what you are taking and potential risks and benefits. With the internet at our fingertips, that's not too hard to do.

I take them every day, as follows:
B-12 complex
Calcium with D (2 @ 600 mg per day)
Multi Vitamin
Flaxseed Oil
My doctor is supportive of this regime since he sees the results of the vitamins and some of my other lifestyle choices, a "relatively healthy" Lupus patient.
None of that snake oil stuff for me, making all sorts of promises about their products & results. I'll just stick with plain old vitamins.

ditto, I take niacin to help regulate cholesterol balance and fish oils for essential fatty acids. Remember the days of cod liver oil.
