Hi.
Our daughter's birthday is on the 29th of this month, during Labor Day Weekend.
We're planning on going camping that weekend and we promised her a small birthday celebration for her birthday. We're taking a cake and a Piñata (typical Mexican tradition).
There's going to be maybe 4 other families camping w/ a total of about 12 kids.

I need help coming up w/ some easy games to play w/ the kids for the celebration. This is the first time doing games for us.
What are some games we could play w/out too much hassle while camping??

Musical camping chairs, come to mind

thx!

Take a BIG lasagna pan, mix Jello and toss in rubber worms, lizards, snakes, etc. Have the kids stand with their back to the pan, and find the critters....

Teams of two kids each. They have 6 paper plates. The teams race to the finish line, but can only step where teammate has put a paper plate. Take turns being the one who puts down the plates, or make them switch and race back....

Water balloon wars....

Squirt gun wars....

Hope this helps, and I assume they are kids!

When my boys were young and we'd take a bunch of their friends camping, I'd ask each kid to bring a plain white t-shirt (a colored one would be fine too, actually). They brought the shirts and I supplied puff paints, fabric paints and fabric paint pens -- and they decorated their own t-shirts. Always a big hit with the kids, and then they have a souvenir from the trip. We also tye-dyed shirts a couple of time, and that was fun too.

The squirt guns are a cheap and fun idea too, I'm not sure I'd do the water balloons because they leave a lot of litter behind which you'll have to pick up.

As a mom, this sounds like a big messy hassle -- LOL! NO offense intended...

Yes! they're kids.
This will be our oldest daughter's 8th birthday. But being that it will be such a small group, I might team up the kids w/ a parent each.

I like the paper plate idea, I just don't want to carry more than I have to. The piñata will leave a mess I have to clean up anyway, so I will take water balloons, and if the weather is fine we'll do that. We're going camping to northern Arizona, where it's supposed to be cooler.

thx for all the great ideas!

Scavenger hunt, always fun and can be tailored to the age group.

They may be old enough to enjoy a rope maze.
lay out the ropes on the ground like a path with several turns (could even be around trees)(we staked the ropes down and used a lot of rope!)
when your maze is done.

blindfold a person, and they have to go thru the maze without touching the ropes on the ground with someone telling
them what to do (when to go straight, left, right)
time them and see who does in in the least amount of time.
(it is very difficult to trust and follow directions when you are blindfolded-even if you have seen the maze on the ground. the kids laugh and have a good time watching each other!

Are you kidding me! What a bunch of lame kids games! Either buy a bunch of water pistols and give them out, or get a bag of balloons and fill one of them with water, start by standing a couple of feet apart in a circle, tossing the filled ballon gently from kid to kid, after each round, everyone takes one step back. Water, kids and summer go together, altho you can also use raw eggs! (after all, kids will clean up nicely!)

The card game called Spoons is rowdy (played in a big circle at the table or on the ground).

Just takes 3 decks of cards and ONE LESS Spoon than the number of players.

You can buy water balloons that are bio-degradable. Maybe Walmart is where I got them?? Sorry, don't remember.

Water guns, short scavenger hunt, paint rocks. Get a cheap acrylic paint set, a few small paintbrushes, glue, and googly eyes. Collect some smooth rocks from the campsite. Paint like ladybugs, bees, or just 'rock creatures'. Glue on googly eyes when dried. These are cute.
