Yes, there are quite a few Canucks and regular travelers to Canada, who don't check this section.

A move would be a good idea!!!

Re. time of the year, check the insulation in the vehicle. & what you have for blankets or sleeping bags. If unsure there are several places in Vancouver where you could make up this gap. My personal favourite is Mountain Equipment Coop They are a Canadian outfit.

I know of people, who hang out at the neighbors, who go camping when it's -37. But they know the roads, the places, etc.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

Well we might skip that part, it's quite far to drive after all. Maybe spending some time on Queen Charlotte Island and Vancouver Island instead.

How much time would you want for Vancouver Island?

We've travelled the Alaska Highway in a Class C in December, twice. Have also been on the highway in late September and early October. September & October are very do-able if you don't the chance of having snow. And if it does snow, it's usually sticks for just a day or two that early in the season. Being from Sweden, snow shouldn't be too much of a bother for you. Roads are well-maintained, even when snowy.

If I had to pick a ferry, the Prince Rupert-Haines ferry is more scenic than the Vancouver Island-Prince Rupert ferry. Haines is also a very scenic area and the drive from Haines to Haines Junction is very nice.

This was one October on the Alaska Highway in northern B.C.

And this in December near Haines Junction in Yukon ...

December can be cold in Yukon and northern B.C. The Class C didn't appreciate -40, but it kept us comfy enough.

While September is our favorite month to journey north, we wouldn't hesitate to take another trip in October or December. Visit the link in my signature for many more pictures of the north in all seasons.

Ok, we have got a motorhome and a plan for the trip. What roadmaps, park lists etc would you recommend?

Magnus ... if you tell us your planned route and the type of camping your prefer, there are many here that can provide suggestions.

Do you prefer commercial campgrounds with hookups? or are you comfy with drycamping in campgrounds without services? perhaps boondocking in the middle of nowhere?

What kind of sightseeing do you want to do? Do you like hiking? There won't be many tourist attractions still open in the north, but will be some good stuff in the southern part of the province. We just need to know what you like to do.

Once you get to BC, you can find Backroad Mapbooks in many stores. These are the most detailed roads maps around, with information on parks, rec sites and even trails.

As to guide books, I like the Moon series, though Lonely Planet is also good.

The route will be Vancouver to Squamish(we are climbers). Then east to Banff and from there up north to Jasper. On to prince george, then prince rupert. Possibly Stewart/hyder. Maybe a trip to Queen Charlotte island(without RV i think, to expensive to bring it). Ferry down to Vancouver island, and back to Vancouver.

We like hiking and just being out in the nature. Might do some longer trek with tent etc. It's our first time in an RV, but for us I think it's the freedom to be able to stop anywhere that's tempting. So all tips about alternative places to camp are welcome. But we'll do comercial campinggrounds as well, so feel free to fill in on the best spots =)
