Canadian Rainbirds... I'm glad to hear your good report on the new Garmin Mexico Maps.
I'll be crossing at Eagle Pass next week heading for the Michoacan west coast and will be using the same GPS equipment. .. Garmin 750 and Garmin Mexico Map.
I did find that it had a little difficulty when doing a trip plan around a big city like Guadalajara.. it wanted to go through the middle of the city and not use the Periferico.

we are using both the Garmin and streets and trips 2009. In our Garmin we have the mexico atlas, mexico city guide, and north america city guide. They work quite well but of course the screen size (etrex) is rather small. In our truck I use streets and trips 2009 which shows all the streets in the cities of mexico, most of the paved roads and some gravel roads and is quite accurate which surprised me. I use a 12 inch remote monitor screen with the computer in the back seat. Works great!

We were driving from Saltillo to Rio Verde Monday, the GPS didn't find the new toll road. Showed us in the middle of nowhere, near the libre! See our thread on the route from Saltillo to Rio Verde

The new road 75D does not show up on MS Streets & Trips 2009 either. I did find it on the San Luis Potosi state map. You can download a large PDF map from Gov't site. The road shows but is not marked.

I spent hours comparing the Mexican maps on the current Garmin offering, mexicomaps.com, and all the others I could find, only to discover that MS Streets & Trips 2009 seems to have far more detail than anybody else.
For $70 I got Streets & Trips with a GPS dongle from Newegg.com, and I plan to switch from our Garmin to our laptop once we cross the border.
To try it out, you can download a 60-day trail version from Microsoft.

I am using Streets and Trips 2009 and it is a big improvement over 2008. It has excellent maps of Mexico showing streets even in the smaller towns. The accuracy is pretty damn good so far and I am quite happy with it.
