I started towing 4 down less than a year ago. I was pretty anxious about at first also. I got lots of help from the people on RV.net. We towed it from Ca to Yellowstone and across Idaho this spring and all went well. I sure like having it around when you want to do something while at the campsite. I also have a camera so I can watch it all the time. Do what everyone told me to do. Take it slow and easy and don't drive faster than you are comfortable. It gets easlier as the miles go by. We take the toad everywhere we go now, whether it is just local or for longer hauls. You will be fine.

I recently made my first trip with a toad. I was very nervous, but after the first 100 miles or so, I almost forgot it was there. It changed our mileage by less than 1/2 mile per gallon, and the convenience of having transportation at our destination was worth the difference. If you are already rigged for towing, I say go for it.
P.S. I had to make an emergency stop during this trip, and I expected to see the toad sailing past us as I slammed on the brakes. The supplemental braking system worked perfectly, and I relaxed after that!

Tow the Toad. We have only traveled a couple of times without the toad. Ended up wishing we had towed it along. If you are worried. Stop and check it every few miles until you feel comfortable about it being back there.

We would tow the toad , have for 10 yrs now. Best advise is watch shadow of toad before changing lanes. Followed that rule and Never backup then you will fine. Best of travels and take pictures.

I take my Prius along on a tow dolly. I sure enjoy having it and it is nice to have my own car and not have to hassle with rentals. Enterprise was great the several times I used them before towing. Came to the campground in the mountains of Santa Fe and picked me up and returned me when we dropped off the car. It is a bit of a hassle hooking up the tow dolly but I am getting good at it so it gets easier and easier. Anybody out there who has found an easy way to hook up car safety chains without going under the car?

toad. if you take your house everywhere you go, you might as well bring a car along. you might use a tny bit more gas towing, but you more then make it up when you use the toad to get around once your park the ole bed in a shed.

Do some online research about weights and state laws concerning break-away switch and onboard brake systems. You will find that a well planned rig will have no problems and you will have very little worries.I really like a rear mounted video system, since alot of the time I have a canoe on the roof of the toad and it's nice to check now and then.

Towed my Volvo on a dolly behind the Winnebago 31ft for over 5000 miles this spring. No issues and towed very nice. We were in the same area you indicate. No issues at the camp sites as well.

If your car can be towed 4 down I would use the money saved on rentals to set it up for 4 down. I had a dolly for 10 years and now have towed 4 down for 7 years. When my daughter was along and I had the dolly it took us about 15 minutes to hitch up. When my daughter went out on her own and it was DW and myself it took a lot longer and then we wouldn't speak for the first half of the day. Since we got the 4 down setup I do it myself in 5 minutes and she has now started helping also. It is so simple to just put on the tow bars, plug in 2 wires, check and go. I took one trip without a toad and there was no difference in mileage. Enjoy yourself.
