have a 2008 class c and planning month long trip. have pulled my car on a tow dolly so know i can do it without any problem. my problem is that i am nervous pulling this for the long haul behind a 31 foot mh. i need some pros and cons and taking the car with us. one minute i want to take it and the next i don't....if need be can't we rent a car most areas. going to SC,GA,TN and may be AR. This decision is the only thing that is bothering me about the trip. we have gone south before and relied on public transportation for getting around. the other factor is the reduction in gas mileage hauling the car will create. ADVICE WANTED!! Thanks

No toad can work. We are at 32' (33.5' bumper to bumper) so seldom is parking an issue and the ability to back up makes parking and getting around (especially in tight places much easy.

Most towns of much size do have car rentals.

I expect you will be OK either way.

I vote for towing the toad. Yes, it does reduce the MH gas mileage, but when you use the toad instead of the MH you get much better gas mileage. It all boils down to convenience. I assume you have all the hardware so it would be less expensive.
Remember, it's all about enjoyment. If your nervousness is going to interfere with your enjoyment, then don't tow.

We have a 2005 31' class C and we have towed with a tow dolly on many trips ranging from cross country (CA to NH) and local. No problems, just remember you can't back up with it. The motorhome drives the same with the toad or not. Gas mileage seems to only be about a half mile per gallon difference.

Tow it!

It's a picnic. What are you afraid of?

Go for it.

Obviously you've mistaken me for someone that gives a damn.

We are still newbies (relatively) and have pulled a toad since our first trip (started with a dolly, now have tow bar)

I am not sure what is concerning you about pulling it for a longer distance. Whether its a 100 miles or 1000, the car should just follow along. Just need to check it once in a while.

my 2 cents.

Go for the "tow"... extra gas can't compare with rental car expenses. I towed, 4 down, and only problem I had, at least once a trip, had to unhook, got myself in a bind, usually at a gas station. Cannot back up with toad. Much easier to have little car with us when we wanted to use it. Do you have time to make a short trip, maybe about 100 miles round trip and see how it handles? If not comfortable with it, then don't put the stress on your trip enjoyment. Have a great trip, either way.

Here is my 2c worth. I have a Jayco Seneca and a Chevrolet Tahoe as a toad. The Seneca barley knows the tahoe exists while towing. There a re a few things to keep in mind here. 1) How capable is the coach as far as tow ratings. 2) A proper tow bar is a must!! 3) A proper supplemental brake system for the toad. 4) Make sure you have proper brake lights for the toad. 5) DO NOT corners on any of the above and you should have a good towing experience. Having the toad is priceless for us with two small children.

We have pulled a toad for 80k the only place that I would not take the toad was to Alaska again, not because of the roads, but we simply had very little use for it. what I really wanted to mention was we have a camera and it allows me to watch the toad but the best thing is when you pass a semi you can see exactly when the back of your toad is clearly past the semi, and even can see when passing at night. good luck
