Definately tow the toad. Especially on a long trip. I was nervous towing the toad for the first time, but a short weekend trip cured me. During the first time, I remember glancing in the back up camera and doing a double take once or twice thinking there was a car following too close.

Now it's no problem. We just returned from a 3,200 mile trip through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota with the CRV in tow. Glad we did. Gas mileage wasn't a whole lot different especially if you're going up and over mountains all the time. Also, it gives you peace of mind knowing that you have options should an RV emergency occur in an area with no cell phone service for roadside assistance. You can always just jump in the car and get help.

Be smart and unhook when you get in a bind. Don't try and back it up.

Enjoy!

We've gone toadless, and "toaded". Our decider is the cost of rentals versus the minimal cost of the extra gas. When we went to Florida last spring, we realized that the toad was going to cost us $60 extra in gas - and we couldn't rent a car for that kind of money for a week.

We're still sort of newbies at towing, so we simply are very careful in our hookups; and we added an inexpensive rear camera so we could see the toad clearly. What we *see* is a Wrangler that follows obediently and gives us no problems :-)

The only difference I notice when we pull the toad is just "looking ahead" as we approach gas stations or restaurants so we don't have to find ourselves backing up. So far, that's not been hard to avoid.

Hey can it charge your house batteries while you tow?
