I'm a custodian at the local high school so when I start getting tipped by parents for keeping the school clean I'll start tipping others

Don't know about 'tipping' the PropaneGuy. Had one at RV store/svc pump 10# (?)into my 7# tank in classC (no - no minimum purchase). Does he get tipped for 'extra'svc? -- or get 'kick-back' from padded sales??

10# in a 7# tank sounds like a built in tip (ripoff)

When you call AAA for a tow truck, is it customary to tip the driver?
Tom and Lynne
Tom is an Electronics Engineer, Lynne a retired teacher.
old rig is a 1988 Winnebago Superchief, just back from being on tour with the Blue Turtle Seduction (band)
new (our dream rig) is a 2003 Foretravel 38' U295

Thanks for the responses.
It sounds like I can assume that it's NOT customary to tip:
1. the person at the CG who fills your propane tank.
2. the person at the CG who shows you your site and helps you back in.
BUT, from the other threads I've read, it IS customary to tip the tow truck driver if you're ever in that situation.

I'm of two minds on this. When I was just out of college, I bartended for a while. I depended on tips and I worked for them. On a busy night it just seemed like the guy who tipped be had a neon light above his glass and I was able to see it better than some of the others when they were empty. I figured they were paying for extra service and they got it.
I spent the rest of my working life in corporate America. No tips, but my employer got to deduct my salary from his tax bill. I don't get to deduct the tips I pay to waiters/waitresses from my tax bill, even though I'm effectively paying their salaries.
So ... I tip wait staff and bartenders 15% because I know it subsidizes their salaries. More if I get exceptional service. If the food is slow or cold or just awful, I tip, but I speak to the manager. I tip my barber of 40 years because he has scissors in his hand, and because we play golf together so sometimes I get it back. And restaurants that charge a service charge only get my money once.

I seldom tip for anything other than food in restaurants...and only then when the service has been good. Maybe if some of these people had better educations they would not be in these low paying jobs.

This is interesting because today I had my tank filled at my space. When he was done I didn't have the exact change in my pocket & told the deliverer that I would check inside & find some ones. His comment was "We take tips". I found the right amount & told him "Thank you". I have tipped on occasion, but not when I am asked to.

yup, see! I'm kind of thinking that these guys are getting tipped or they wouldn't be hinting ...or in your case, outright asking.
So that's why I'm wondering how many of you do. From this thread, it sounds as if not many of you do but I'm thinking that there may be more doing it than just those of you who've commented here.
It may not be "customary" but when a lot of folks start doing it, it then becomes so, I suppose.
Thanks.
