Radio control flying and camping are my hobbies. What a great opportunity to combine both of them for the month of Sept.
Admiral. I think it is AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). How long have you been a member of the AMA? You must be taking Ron and Kays position. I spent my summer there and left just 2 weeks ago to come west. Dont let Jim hear you say AAA Enjoy your stay

Ron,
My bad...I meant to say the International Aeromodeling Center I.A.C. which is the facility, not the organization. Yes, Marge and I relieved Ron and Kay over the Labor Day weekend and just returned home today. Ron said he had his hands full with the heli group but had fun nevertheless.
Our month was a little slower (free flight, pylon, soaring masters and skydiver competitions) if not boring at times...watching over the vast prairie when there's no one else around isn't fun. Jim Cherry treated us like VIPs and we met a lot of good people. You may know some of them them...Gene & Vickie Wicks, Jim Mahoney, O.C., Sam and many more. I even met a member of my club at the I.A.C that I never met at my home field in Wooster, Oh. What a coincidence. I burned 3 gallons of glow in my ucando and got over my "paved runway" jitters right away.
I've been a member about 6 years. I fly .60 to .90 size glow fun fly, gliders and small foamie electrics.
We're going back (as customers) July, 09 for the Nats. If you're there, look us up....Tom

Actually Jo, nobody owns the exclusive use of the letters AMA, but that just happens to be the best know use of those letters. Here are a few other groups who think that they own the letters AMA
American Motorcycle Association
American Marketing Association
American Management Association
Academy of Model Aeronautics
and last but not least,
The American Medical Association.

Hey Tom, Glad you had fun!! I was there for all of the 08 nats and was a volunteer during the freeflight HLG event. I really enjoyed the freeflight events during the nats. Heck since I like to build I assembled a few planes in my MH while I stayed there from June 8 through August 23. I just missed meeting you. Maybe next year!!
I enjoyed Gene and Vicki's company. They sure helped me out alot. You must have met Hank and Joan Sperzel then? and how about Wild Bill from Pleasant Hill? I was standing right next to him when he had the stroke. I sure miss the friends that I made at the AMA this past summer

Yes, I forgot to mention Hank and Joan although they left right after the free flight and SAM competitions and were to return for another one the day after I left.
Bill was there with his foamies after he got out of the hospital. No wife though--he was by himself so we kept an extra eye on him. He was doing great with the coordination considering what he went through. My son had purchased a house that was ready for foreclosure and was caught up in the owner's multiple financial loan trouble. Bill used to work at a real estate lawyer's office and helped my son understand the fanniemays and freddiemacs. Maybe next year~~Tom
