I have a 2008 F-350 crew cab, short box SRW with 4.30 gears with the V-10. I get 8.8 mpg towing and 14 mpg not towing. I tow a 36ft Mobile Suites and it does the job.

For a work truck or a towing truck to tow within its ratings the V10 will get 'er done. Empty running the V10 doesn't seem to use much more than the V8. It's a strong motor and, if you believe the reports, there are a number of high (>200K) mileage V10s out there. Towing performance is strong also, I have no complaints and tow between 5-12K lbs.
Going on the work truck theme, one of the largest contractors in the US, Peter Kiewit Sons, buys entirely Ford gassers for the pickups, including more than a few V10s. These are sharp guys who know how to calculate a fleet's cost per mile as well as anyone, and their fleet choices speak loudly to me. They go with Caterpillar for most dirt-related heavy equipment, Kenworth for their class 8s and Ford gassers for pickups. When I last saw the statistic, they were the 2nd largest buyer of Caterpillar, only behind the US Army. I wonder how high they stand on the Ford buyer list.
Echoing what Marty said, I found that with my usage pattern (< 3,000 miles per year) the gas engine was the only economic choice. Pump up the miles to the 20K+/yr range or have a frequent trade interval (say every 3 years) and the diesel starts to look good.

I will go today and test drive this V10.
I will get back to you all later today and post my thoughts on the truck and see what their bottom deal is.
My guess would be that not many people would be knocking down the doors to buy a v10 with gas prices high.

I bought the truck.
Just wanted to let you all know. Thanks for the help and also your thoughts.
For now my plan is to keep it parked as long as I can. At the most I may drive it one day a week for work. I am thinking of getting a K&N air filter for it.
Does anyone know a good sorce for K&N and other performence products?

Boy, if we could only see into the future and see the deals we're going to be missing out on if we don't wait!!!
$26,000 for a relatively new/used truck! What a bargain! I paid $31,000 for mine new. Had to order it, and now she's got over 45,000 miles on it. OK, I'm done whimpering.
Anyway, congrats on the new truck, great deal, great truck, can't go wrong there.
As to the K&N, not sure what you're looking for. But I wouldn't hold out for too much in the way of performance gains. These engines breath quite well stock. Though there are those who claim some improvement with the K&N, and others not so much.
Me, I'm on fence and don't intend to make the change. You could go to www.ford-trucks.com click on forums, then scroll down to Ford Modular V10. Lots of us V10 guys there with as much info as you can stand. All good guys, and many with miles of experience modding this engine.
Again, congrats on your new purchase.
Enjoy,

Yeah, on the V10, a K&N alone won't help too much on power. Unless you upgrade the exhaust, the air filter isn't really a constraint.
But, I did add it to mine even before I did the Banks exhaust, simply to save on air filters. With my driving, I was replacing filter every 10k. Instead I now wash my K&N every 30k. But, it is harder to get it seated right int eh filter housing, so be careful whenever installing. If it's not seated just right, dirt will slip past. Also be careful not to over-oil or you will have to clean you MAF sensor.

Thanks, Rusty.
Do you know where I should look to find out what rear end I have !!
Bryan, I may look at the banks exhaust system. Do you remember how much it cost?
