Hi all, we are heading to the valley this winter for the first time. We stayed in Florida last year and it was nice. After reading all of the post about the RGV we though we would give it a try this year. Anyone know about "Bentsen Grove Resort"? We have reservations there for the winter. Where or what are some of the places and things we need to do while we are there.
Thanks for the info and help

More than you can see or visit in one season. Visit a lot of the other parks in the area while your there to get a feeling of just what all is available. We have spent 5 seasons in the RGV ( a total of 4 different parks ) and now three seasons in Arizona. Not sure just where we will head this winter (Not Florida).

Bentsen Grove Resort is a nice park. It is close to the butterfly gardens and the state park which is a birding paradise. There are also many bike trails in the area and opportunities to kayak or canoe are close by as well. We really like the Valley, particularly trips to Mexico, birding, shuffleboard, and dancing. Too much to do, too little time!

I do not know of that park, I have heard of it and maybe even seen it...I cannot offer any advice about it.....I would suggest though that you make a personal list of the activities and amenities that are important to both of you... and then..study the brochures to make sure they have the things you want so as to rule it out or go visit it, when you get to the park, pay for the first month and then compare your list with the park...if it satisfies your list..great...If not head out to wander other parks..There are so many in the valley to choose from it will make your head spin...we have stayed in the valley for the winter on 3 winters. we stayed at San Benito in the Fun N Sun park....we toured every park in the Harlingen area and have chosen another one for this year...I would rather go further west in the valley and end up somewhere around where you are...I just cannot decide what one I want...DW is easy to please..big pool that isnt over 4 ft deep(top of head is 4ft11)...so I will book our choice(Tropic Winds in Harlingen) for a month with the 5 month option and decide where we will be about 3 weeks after I get there.......If you check the net and then call the resort and have them send you the brochures it makes it easier to make a decision(compare list)....dont be afraid to ask questions, most of the folks on the phones started right where you(and I) are so they know how to assist and advise..
My only problem is finding the perfect pool for the wife...the further you get west in the valley the more crowded is seems to get(dont know if its population or congestion).....if you have questions or concerns PM me or post them, there are a couple more on this forum that winter in the RGV.. Don

I think you will like Bentzen Grove we have stayed there. Lots of fresh fruit. And close to very many interesting things. The Grove is very busy and lots of different things to do. We also stayed next at the Green Gate very clean and very well managed. However its a 55+ RV and Park model homes. There are over 500 RV parks of all types and sizes.

But due to the cost of fuel (Diesel) we are going to Gulf Shores for Nov and Dec and to the Tampa area for Jan and Feb. We need to be withing a days drive of Home Base. If not for that we would be in the RGV of Arizona for the winter. Florida cost is just to expensive. However the cost of fuel will off set the extra cost we hope. And next year maybe fuel will come back down and we will go to the West.

Good Luck. GBY....

That is a very nice park and it is in a great location, there are all kinds of things to do in that area. You will be busy as much as you want to be.
Everyone will tell you that one of the main things will be EATING, so start starving yourself now.
There is a great Skeet and Trap range very near by, that a lot of us use. Golf courses all over the place etc. You will really enjoy yourself.
safe travels John

I have a lot next door at Green Gate, I've talked to many people who have stayed BG and really like it. The only thing that I have 1st hand experience with is their shuffleboard. GG and Bentsen Grove play each other once a week, 1 week at GG the next at BG. If you like shuffleboard they have many courts and a lot of nice people that play. See you there.

We have stayed at Bentsen Grove for four years. We really like it and the activity director (Bonnie). Drop by the hangar on the west side of the park. We are in the Winnebago, the first one in the row accross from the hangar. Would be glad to visit with you. You can p.m. me with any questions.

Thanks to all for the replies!
The wife and I don't dance much and have never played suffleboard but I think we can learn. If the hangar is the place to hang out at then (Bill V)save me a seat I think I may need it.
We are looking forward to being there this winter. We are hoping to arrive on December 1. We are leaving here in Kentucky the Friday after Thanksgiving, and it's a 1500 trip there. Sounds like a lot of good friends to be made, and a lot of interesting things to see and do.

Thanks again for all of the replies,
See you in December (sounds like a song)
