Look for them on ebay, called scooters. A couple of my friends bought them and they look real nice come in candy apple colors and run great, inexpensive and last. They where getting them for a couple hundred dollars and they ship in a couple of days, usually free.

Starting bid on this one is $139.00
And if you want to make a statement at the CG's there's this one!

Hi,

Currie makes some great products, I have one of their "Early" electric scooters with lousy brakes but it has a great motor controller and motor rated at around 300 watts at 24 volts. IT uses a pair of 10 AH batteries that are kinda small for the electric scooter, and can leave you stranded if you don't use care in wantering to far from the RV. This happened at the Albuquerque hot air balloon fiesta several years ago, and this year I will have a gas powered scooter that is fairly quiet - 4 stroke motor that can be filled with a pint of fuel at any gas station!

So I bought a better electric scooter with wider tires, disk brakes and a larger battery pack, but it is heavier. I want to find a Badsey scooter, it has 36 volts and a monster motor! They even made a 48 volt racer with 500+ watt motor!

I suggest a battery pack of at least 24 volts and at least 12 amp hours. That is about 250 watts, so you are not talking about a lot of power. But you can use the pedals if you are a mile from home and run out of electric.

There are electric scooters with 35 and 50 mile range, but they are heavy. More battery power = more weight, and more power to recharge.

I use a 300 watt inverter to recharge the electric scooter while dry camping, it works pretty good.

I saw a Curry folding bike several years ago, but the $750 price was a bit much for a toy that I would only use a couple of times per year. I could not use it to commute to work or anyplace else. You should be able to find them used on Craigslist and E-Bay.

Try this link in Google. electric bike site: craigslist.org You will get results from Craigslist from all over the country, some posts might be old and the bike sold weeks or months ago. But it will still give you an idea of what is out there.

This is one of the 6,720 results that I found. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/798814631.html

Fred.

I bought a couple of LaFree electric bikes on eBay. Not the latest technology, but good enough for my purposes. 20 mile range at 20 MPH.

The Currie Ezip bikes are great. I have the mountain bike version. Very well built. Will go 12-14 miles on a single battery and charge. It has a position for a second battery, all wired with selector switch.

I got mine from Northern Tool, also available from Walmart on-line.

One thing to remember is a electric bike or electric scooter can be pretty heavy so you don't just grab it and pick it up easily. I have a Extreme X-500 48v scooter and it is HEAVY.

My concerns would be:

1. Quality. This is often hard to define before a purchase. Later, on, after you have made your choice. it is easier.

2. Parts and service availability. How long has the brand been sold in the US? How long has the present importer sold it here? How long has the dealer sold it. Do a trial run on buying a part, like a speed control.

Bill,

I have found a good source for parts for Chinese scooters. It is partsforscooters.com. I just bought a 30a 24v electronic speed control ($32.00) and a throttle for it ($19.95) for a project I am working on. They have a big inventory of parts for many brands.
