jauguston wrote: I just took a look at the link pkunk posted. The interior fixtures in my GS take one or two 12v bulbs and would need their "side firing" 30 LED bulb as a replacement. That would be $60.00 per two light fixture!! I have a total of 20 12v bulbs in my interior lighting. $600.00 for light bulbs. Where is the saving with that??
Jim
You've got it all wrong. LEDs are not about saving money, it's about stretching your batteries as long as possible when boondocking. We are willing to pay MORE money for that.

Just a thought: http://www.ledlight.com/ only has 1157 replacements and I need 1076 for some of my fixtures. A typical geek, I made an inventory of the bulbs:
2000 Monaco Lights
Qty. Old # Locations
1 1156 Outdoor
4 1076 Bedroom $19.95 ea or 13.50/10 @ Safety Bulbs
14 1141 Dining/Living/Bed/Bath
The 1076 replacements from Safety Bulbs were 3 LEDs and were too dim to read by.
2000 Monaco Knight 36Z
Splendide 2100 Washer/Dryer
2006 Jeep (X2)
Guinness the cat
Full-timing since Sep. 2006

I don't think there will be that much power savings.. However let me describe the two light systems
First the florescent
Power comes in and goes to a "Ballast" this is really a DC/DC up-converter with some special features. It then arcs through the tube, which is filled with Mercury and perhaps neon, this generates ultraviolet light which is converted by phosphors on the tube into visible light. Depending on the Phospors it can be very "Soft" light, or very "Natural" light (Warm, cold, all up to the selection of tubes) Very efficient. (Though truthfully I don't know the lumens per watt figures)
Now LED
Power goes to a resistor, and then to the LED, which makes the light.> Simpler, yes, but that resistor is using power and generating heat.. More, heat (in many cases) than the gas tube makes (it too makes a bit of heat)
Light tends to be very "Cold" not at all natural
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Whether you like it or not LED replacement lighting is coming to a store near you. Not just for flashlights, cars, trucks, and RVs either. They are going into commercial and residential areas. It will start with Hall Lights, Porch Lights, Closet Lights, refrigerator lights, etc.
You just cannot argue with 1/10th the electricity and lasts forever. The only reason they aren't already here is lighting manufacturers have a lot of investment in screw-in flourescents to re-coup.
Way greener than flourescents. Especially at disposal time when flourescents have to be treated as haz-mat. Wait, oh yeah, LEDs hardly ever burn out :}

Wait, oh yeah, LEDs hardly ever burn out :} I've already got some LEDs in the stick house and don't like them at all (bedroom and porch). Lighting is lousy to say the least. And my electric is already so low that you do not see any difference in them from the flourescents I'm already converted to, both tube and CFLs. And when I burn out a flourescent, it is not treated as haz-mat. In my county, and neighboring countys, which runs the refuse systems, flourescents are treated as garbage. I don't like that, and you may not like that, but that is the way it is.

I agree this is a good source. Beware of really cheap LED's as they tend to have short lives or in the case of arrays, some may not work when you get them. The above source has very good quality stuff.
I highly recommend the 30 LED panel arrays to replace the standard 194 bulbs. They make as much light or more than the 194's.
