My BIL purchased one a few months back. We finally got to go camping together a few weeks back. His Champion runs louder than my Yamaha 3000 but not to the point where I would have to complain about it. Nice unit for the price.
CrazyFoo.... depends how big your AC is. My Yamaha can run a 13500 without problems and is very quiet.

I was going to get a 3000W Honda inverter gen but I think I'll get a champion instead. With the money I save I'll get those outside speakers I've been thinking about, the motion detecting floodlights and all the other extras I can think of to annoy people that have nothing to worry about except getting annoyed.

What is the quietest generator available?
We have a 21 foot Sunline tt (86)
I had a new roof air installed last summer (Carrier), not sure about the size.

I would like a gen that could run that and extremely quiet.

Thanks!

The absolute quietest one would probably be the Honda 3000. Keep in mind though that it takes two people to lift it (around 150 lbs), but it has enough power to run just about anything in your RV.

We needed a generator as emergency power at the house and also wanted to run the RV at time...again for emergencies. we are rural and when the power goes down, we are without water due to the well being electric. The well is a 1.5 HP and it takes at leat a 5kW generator (due to starting requirments). I finally settled on the Disafter DSP6500EW. It is a bit over 200# but it has the power and is not as loud as my neighbors Generac 3500 Watt generator.

They also sell a line of nice quiet inverter generators but only go to 3500 Watts. Bottomline Trading sells them. The generators are put together nicely and works well for my purpose.

Also, a 3db increase in the sound level is a doupling of the sound power.

You also need to be careful of the posted sound data as most do not distinguish between soound power level and sound pressure level.

We have a 3750 watt/5500 starting watt generator purchased from Home Depot. Ours is a Troy Bilt w a Briggs and Stratton motor. When we hook it up to the travel trailer everything runs fine with the exception of the AC unit. We can run the fan on the AC but the AC will not run. From reading the posts here, it seems that our generator should be powerful enough. I should add that the generator has the regular household type plug ins (6 of them) and we purchased an adapter to go from the 30 amp plug on the trailer.

We do not plan on ever using the generator in a campground, only for dry camping if it gets very hot out.

Will we have to get rid of this generator and purchase one specifically for RV use?

I like having the one we purchased as an emergency power source at home to power our pellet stove if necessary during a power failure in the winter.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe some of these generators put out half their rated wattage on each leg (1/2 of 3750 = 1875 watts on each leg or hald of 5500 = 2750 watts starting).

If that's the case, it would explain why you can't run your AC.

If you can return the Troy-Bilt, I would. The Briggs engine will be very loud!

I don't want to play the role of complainer but.... I spent one season of no generator to save up for the right one. No one wants to listen to somebodies contractor generator when they are trying to relax. Does the Champion meet state and federal regs for sound? I know the county parks police, where I live, patrol the campgrounds and anyone who has a generator other than an invertor type will be shut down. I just purchased a Boliy Pro3600si and so far so good.

The Champion meets the National Part Service standards. That SHOULD be good enough for anybody, but some will have a different opinion.

popuplar topic, i'm looking to purchase soon. champion is at the top of my list thus far. the price difference is quite significant and it doesn't seem to be quite as loud as others in its class.

as far as being a good neighbor my first experiance of RV camping this weekend was a good one

i heard 1 built in propane generator right next to me running for about 15 minutes at a time that i barely noticed. 1 honda accross the way which honestly i noticed more than the propane that was right next to me. and lastly a standard *clanky* generator that about the same distance away as the honda.

the honda operator was running it durring non generator hours and more frequently. yes the standard generator was louder but he wasn't running it non stop like the guy with the honda. honestly none of the 3 bothered me what none of them compared to how loud the people were while i was putting my kids down for a nap.

5 people sitting around a camp fire with adult beverages must operate around 80db
