Well I finally did it. I went yesterday to The Home Depot & bought the champion 3500 watt generator . They had it on sale for $224.00. got it home put gas & oil in it 2nd pull it was running. It was really quiet. I turned on the a/c it seemed not to effect the running of the little engine at all. I am comfortable in saying I think it will work for whwt I need it for.

I have a Honda 3000 and my camping buddy has a Champion. It's not near as quiet mine, but nothing like most other generator. For what little differents there is in noise, there is a lot of differance in price. You made a GREAT purchase.

I just bought a Yamaha 2400.

I am NOT with the crowd that scorns the use of any generator, anywhere.

However, I do feel that if one is taking a generator into a park/camping setting it is incumbent on the individual to pay the price for an ultra-quiet model.

If I recall, each 10db difference is double (or half) the sound volume.

So a 68db generator is twice as loud as a 58.

I would not personally camp with anything other than a 53-58 dbu unit. Many manufacturers make many models in this category. Yes-they are expensive.

I too have the Champion 3500 generator. I have used it often and have had no problems with it nor have I had any complaints about noise. I am however surprised the generator police have not chimed in on this thread yet. They can be relentless when you mention any generator type other than a Honda or Yamaha.

Champion 3500 = 68 db

Most inverter gens = 58 or less db

Granted bigger commercial gens will be well into the 70's, and I don't think I'm the generator police but I have to agree I'd want a more considerate neighbor if possible.

I think I'd be understanding if the unit ran for the 4 or 5 hottest hours of the afternoon or something but not much else.

I like this topic...it gets beaten like the proverbial dead horse every time. The Champion is louder....proven fact. Most folks that have them state that the inverter style generators are too expensive. Maybe so...but then don't put out your profile showing the world you have a $80,000 TV & TT!!!

I have two honda 2000 and yes they are quiet. I have never heard how loud the champion is but I think you made a good purchase. I already had one 2000 for use on my boat so when I purchased the TT I went ahead and got another unit. I really thought about getting the champion but didn't like the weight.

Running daytime I could give less about the noise. I am sure it is NO where near as loud as my coleman 6500 I use at home in emergencies. At nite time I wouldn't even dare run my 2000's either. I do not know if I will ever use the twin 2000's camping but I bought it just to have it if I needed it.

I bought a TT so I could sleep without sweating so I do not think I will go to a campground without electrical hookup during summers.

Good deal as long as it runs the A/C properly.
