Cashier at Flying J Davenport IA today said she'd seen some paperwork about dumping the "new" rewards program that pegs fuel discounts to store & restaurant purchases and going back to the straight penny-a-gallon program. She thought it might happen in September. She said there had been way too many complaints about the new program.

I guess we stay tuned . . .

I haven't actually "complained" about the new program, I just quit going to Flying J, at least locally. It is too far away anyway. With the "old" system, it was only marginally worth going all the way out there, with the "new" program I'm better off going to the Town Pump station, it's only half as far, and sometimes their fuel is cheaper than J.

Got a letter from Flying J today. 1 cent is back on if using RV card at RV pumps. In order to get discount and cash price at truck pumps you need cash, pre-approved check or a TAB Master or Debit Card.
Purchasing food or merchandise will give additional savings at the pumps. There is supposed to be a brochure at Flying J stores with this information.

The following link explains what the FlyingJ benefits will be as of Sept 1, 2008. Note that there is a 100 gallon limit on benefits per months. That won't get the average motor home very farm, but I guess it is better than nothing.

I guess the real culprit is that they saw their RV business drop after changing the program. While I use J, I rarely go shopping or eating there, so it was not any real benefit for me after they linked to inside dollars spent.

I think it may have been a combination of them changing their program at the same time that prices shot up. Demand must have fallen like a rock.

Today at the local J, I topped off the tank and went to dump. The dump had a lock on it and I had to go inside and sign a log book and get the key. My guess is that someone has dumped something that they shouldn't have. What a shame.
