On our last trip, two families brought their jet skis and shared them with the group. The kids and I got to ride them for the 1st time and had a blast.

I know that maintaining and fueling them is not cheap. I felt that I should have offered a contribution, but wasn't sure if I would be insulting the families.

Should I send a thank you card & a fuel card as an appreciation gesture? Should I have offered a constribution to fuel in person?

It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honor nature's gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever.

I struggled with this too until gas prices got so high.
Now I just shove the money into my buddies pocket and say thanks.
It sure is better having a freind with a boat than having one yourself!

Funny that I ran across this thread. This summer we spent a week with friends in West Virginia and brought our new 20 ft speed boat for us all to use. It was a rally towards the end of the week and weekend. We took everyone rides and the kids and some adult tubbing on several occations. Many peope offered us money, the adults and the parents of the kids. We chose not to take any money and told the group that our thoughts were that if we couldn't afford to fuel the boat we would not have brought it.
I guess everyone is different. We choose not to accept any money (we did take food and special pot luck food items, hahahaha).
We all had a great time

I think it really depends are well you know the owners of the jet skis and whether you often do things for them as well. If you just met them, or never do anything with them, then yes you should send a thank you and gas card. If you are always interacting with them often doing things for them as well, then that is what good friends do with each other...it all comes out in the end.

Yes, send a thank you note. If you want send a gas card, but it does not have to be a large amount the gesture itself will be appreciated.

We always appreciate it when our friends offer, but we don't always take contributions. If it is someone who is always generous with us we refuse to take any money.

I am a boat owner and I don't offer to take anyone anywhere that I am not willing to pay for myself. I do not expect people to offer to pay for gas or lunch or whatever, but do appreciate it when someone offers. Depending on the situation, I may or may not accept.

We always offer money to our friends the Orfs when they let us use their boat. They always try to turn it down, but we insist! Even though we interact with them on almost a daily basis, we still find it important to re-imburse their hard earned money that we used up for our own enjoyment.

Ditto.

As we used to own a boat, I would never ask for money if I invited you aboard. Now if you invited yourself, or pushed your way on. (you know how people have a way of doing this) You had better bring beer or gas money.

Obviously you've mistaken me for someone that gives a damn.

I'm a boat owner, but never expect any contributions, (no one has ever offered either). Half the fun of owning toys is to share, it's just the cost of having them.

If someone takes your child camping all weekend in their TT, do you offer to pay for the TV gas? I make sure my child has his own $$, and tell them to offer to chip in. Of course, it would be nice if a 12 year old would buy you several cases of beer.... (maybe in NH???)
