I always tow with the tow/haul button pushed.
On are last trip when going down the highway the rpms dropped.
Normally they are around 2600 rpms.
They dropped to were they are when I don't have the trailer and the tow/haul button pushed.
Is this a problem to let the truck do this?
The truck didn't seem to shift down or jump between gears.
We had a good wind pushing us down the road.

The truck I have is a 2005 dodge ram 1500 pickup 1500 SLT, QUAD CAB, 2WD, 6.25 FT Bed, 5-Speed Automatic 545RFE Transmission, 5.7-Liter HEMI(R) V8 Engine: Truck came with tow package. With 3.55 Axle Ratio Axle Ratio.

Thanks for all the help this forum gives.

Sounds like it shifted into 5th, I would guess with the 3.55 that may not happen that often. I wouldnt worry about it.

Yep, my guess is that's probably the first time it's ever been able to hold OD while towing. Nothing about tow haul that has anything to do with RPMs other than at shift points.

I have the same truck 2006 with 4x4.

Check the owners manual. I believe with the 1st push of the button (tow/haul) it just changes the shift points. I find that it will shift at about 80 km/h (approx 50 mph).

I usually drive with OD OFF (2nd push). Pulls great and at about 2500 rpm doing 100 km/h and works well heading into the Rockies.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.
I don't remember reading that you can push the OD button more than once.
I thought when you push it once it activates tow/haul then when you push it again it turns it off.
If you could provide any help on this it would be great.
I just don't want to hurt my truck.

Your owner's manual will have the definitive answer. I highly recommend you visit your local dealer and get a manual if you don't have one.

If you don't want to hurt your truck, learn to listen to and feel what it's doing instead of just pushing the "go pedal" and aiming it between the lines. Learn to tell when the truck is shifting, and when the torque converter locks and unlocks. You should feel a slight bump in your rump when it shifts, and the RPMs will drop by 200-300 when the torque converter locks, with no noticeable bump.

You want the truck to stay in the same gear, with the torque converter locked, while you're towing. Lots of shifting and running with the torque converter unlocked is what causes wear on your transmission.

2005 is a singel push tow/haul button. 2006 they started with the MDS(multi displacement system) Hemi and have the 2 push button. The hemi does a prety good job of dragging our 5er.
