Hello,
I have a piece of property were i camp most of the time.I keep my 2 labs tied on long cables or in a kennel that i have for them,At this point they are not allowed to run free. My question is-Has anybody used the invisable wireless fencing that is now available? And are you happy with it? The area is too rocky and uneven to run underground wire.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The invisible fencing has its advantages and does work (after a training period) at keeping your dogs on your property. What it doesn't do is keep other dogs, coyotes, preditors, etc OFF your property.
If you are in an area where they may be a threat to your animals...only a good fence/kennel will work.

Thank you,Both dogs are Black and would not be allowed off the leash at night because i could not see them, and also for the reasons you descibed. The primary reason is for when we are with them at our campsite,We are constantly un-tangling them,When we leave the campsie they are in the camper,in the kennel or with us.They are both young and play quite often.

Friends of ours have the invisible fence but they had to bury a wire for theirs, they like it. Haven't heard about wireless invisible fencing.

I just saw the wireless kind at a local home improvement store,It is expensive as compared to the other kind,I have had the dogs off the leash for very short times, they listen very well but i still would not trust them if they saw a critter,They are both shelter dogs and i could not bear the thought of them getting lost and ending up in another shelter.Another note-the area i am talking about is approx 1/4 acre surrounding my camper, outside of that is all woods and my property is 21 acres

We have the wired version and it works great. As with anything else, training is key.
We chose a national brand with a buy back guarantee because I was skeptical that it would work with our Brittany.
Wired is good because you decide exactly where you want the boundary to be.
Wireless would be fine if the boundary it creates is acceptable to you.
I think the most important thing would be consistency in the boundary. The 'safe' zone and the 'zap' zone needs to always be in the same place.

That was the best investment i ever brought for my dogs and me to.You can put the wire any where you want. To train my dog which i have two cocker took me 1/2 hour for the two.Get the heavier gauge wire.Make sure you have a good ground.or lighting strike will burn out the wire that why you need good gauge wire.Good luck

Hope you have better success than we did. We started out with a wired invisible fence for out standard poodle. It worked well at first, then one day he saw a squirrel in our neighbors' yard-- SNAP!and he was off. From that point on he would just take the pop and run off if he wanted to.
I'm sure someone will come along and point out that we are horrible dog trainers, didn't try hard enough, blahblahblah, but to me, we only felt truly comfortable with our dog safely inside his (real)fence.

My son has the no wire kind, and it sure works for him. he had a lot of touble before he got the wireless fence because the dog was not trained yet and just did his thing until the wireless fence, but no more. he takes it camping with him sets it up, and the dog is perfect. Whats nice about it is the dog can't run through it because the collar only goes off when the dog gets outside the range of the transmitter. If the dog goes outside the area, he comes back in a terrible hurry. The dog also seems to mind a lot better now.

I have been looking in to the wireless fence after reading this thread and have found a couple concerns for me anyway.
Some of the sites say ideal for flat yards with no more than a 20 degree slope, and for small to medium dogs. This could be a problem for us.
Are all wireless fences this way?
