Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. I have successfully transferred all my pictures over from C drive to D drive, and now I have space on my C drive for other files as needed. With all my pictures on D drive, I can now reset the photo programs to D... again, thank you everyone... this is a great service - people helping people.. much appreciated...thank you again.

Anml_341,
Glad to hear you were able to do what you wanted.
If I may add just a bit more advice. PLEASE go out and buy a USB external hard disk drive and copy all of your picture files, and anything else you value, to it. Or at the very least, burn them to CD/DVD. If you need further help with either of these ideas, we'll be able to help you.
It sounds like your hard drive is filling up. I'm assuming that means you have an older system, and as a system ages, the likelihood of a HD failure (or other system failure) increases. If you value those pictures, you want them backed up.
Just because your Operating System is "presenting" two drives (C & D) does not mean you have 2 drives. You have ONE physical drive. And if it fails, you might lose all of the information contained on both the C & D drives, including your pictures.
Good Luck,

It would probably help if we knew FOR SURE what we are dealing with...
You should do this if you are using Windows XP. For any other operating system, ignore this post.
Do the following EXACTLY:
RIGHT click on "MY Computer"
LEFT click on "Manage"
LEFT click on "Disk Management" in the left pane
Now LOOK ONLY, do not click on ANYTHING.
You will have three panes, one on the left, two on the right. In the bottom right pane, there will be in BOLD words like "Disk 0", "Disk 1", "CD-Rom", etc. Describe to us in detail what you see there (including colors). This will show if you really have two disk drives, or one that has been split into two parts (the "partitions" mentioned by another poster).
When finished LOOKING, close the window (LEFT click on red "X" in the upper right corner of the "Computer Management" window).
This will help now and in future discussions (like about backing things up).

We've run out in the house, but the RV has two.

Rick Jay: Thank you - I have an external large capacity HD that I used to back up my files including pictures. My Acer Extensa 5620Z is less than a year old and is using Windows XP. When I moved the pictures over to D drive (yes I was aware that there is only one hard disc but it was divided into two sections) my pictures used us 38 GB of space. I am a writer (since retirement) as per one of my blogs and find I take a lot of pictures for the publisher to select from which they seem to appreciate. Articles are mainly RV related with some historical stuff from time to time. Again, thank you everyone...
