Another issue is: How much are you going to use it? I don't mind buying new cars because I know I will be getting 100-150k miles of use out of them.
IMHO, It makes less sense to buy a new RV if it is going to sit unused 50 weeks out of the year.
Even worse, I have friends who spent 25K on a new top-end PUP, only to find out they really don't like camping.

We have had both through the years. The advantage of used, in addition to saving on the depreciation, is that someone else has gone through the PITA of dealing with the warranty service. My experience with a new MH in Roseville, MI. convinced me never to buy new again. 3-4 year old are great buys. If you are concerned about old mattresses just go to a local mattress co. and get a new mattress for your RV. They can make them to size easily. A can of Lysol will clean the toilet cleaner than Holiday Inn.

I bought pre-owned clean one-owners, for our the first 5 Class A motorhomes. For our 6th motorhome, we special ordered brand spanking new because we wanted to treat ourselves to a big diesel pusher which was equipped and configured exactly the way we wanted (within our cash budget). If it had been available in a clean one-owner, we would've bought it. We did NOT want to wait a couple of years for a used one to become available.

In replying to quark....the kids are gone!!!!!!!!!! and this is our first year to "do whatever we want" ha ha..and believe you me if I have my way..we will be going ALOT. Our jobs are flexable..we have alot of time off during the year..my husband has 4 wks vacation..and we will not let the camper sit. That is for sure. I appreciate those responses about MH but we are planning on a 5'ver or another TT. Whatever we get...its going to be used ALOT. Thats why I was hesitant about buying a much older unit..cause the last thing I want is to be out in the wilderness and everything fall apart. I would be sad.

I had my pick, and bought used. Paid 16% more for the used one than the asking price of the new one of similar size. But I got a lot more quality and utility for my money.

It's a very personal decision, and changes with what you're shopping for and market fluctuations. In our case, we bought new because with the rebates and dealer incentive, we were able to get a new DP for less than a recent model. People who financed their coach really can't drop the price a lot below what they owe, and they have already paid their dealer profit. We were able to get an almost unbelieveable deal on our new one because RVs just aren't selling right now.

You are lucky. My wife's kids are long gone, but my work is very stingy with vacation, and they control most of it with mandatory plant shutdowns.
Best of luck with your purchase.

CindyBR777 wrote: Well I sure do appreciate everyone's intake on this subject. I guess my thinking was on the "how old" question is that the camper we are going to purchase next will be one that will need to last us awhile. I guess that was my thinking on buying new. Wanted it to last at least 8 or 9 yrs. So if i bought a 10 yr old camper it would be 18 or 19 yrs old when it was time to trade it in. I really dont want one that old. Anyway..like everyone said..it's our preference but I appreciate all the opinions. Well, the last diesel motorcoach I bought was 9 months old, had 5K miles on it, had been cooked in two or three times, and slept in maybe 10 nights, and had depreciated 25% from what the new buyer paid for it. I saved tens of thousands of dollars, and I got exactly the right coach, with all the options I wanted anyway. It only gets better as an RV ages. The rule of thumb is that you can get a 2 year old RV for 50% of what the new buyer paid for it. That's value, my friends.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

If I found a good deal used, I would go for it. The same goes for new.
