"ALLISON is, beyond a doubt, the best transmission."

Camparing 5-speed (one of the Allison models) to 5-speed (Ford's newer TorqueFlight), why is the Allison better than Ford's 5-speed TorqueFlight with Tow/Haul mode?

You know.. I don't know why.. Exactly. I do know some of the quality control testing that's done on the Allison, I know some of the people who built some of the testing labs. They have worked for GM, Chrysler, even John Deer (Tractors) but not for FORD.

I know the Allison is smooth, very well designed, computer controlled (It has it's own computer in fact) and has a Tow/Haul mode or Grade Brake depending on the options selected by the vehicle maker

I know it's somewhat "over built" and can take a larger engine than the 8.1 without breaking a sweat. And that it comes with a very good warranty, epically if it is filled with transynd. (Synthetic fluid)

And I know the one transmission I've cussed at, and cussed, and cussed, and cussed...... Was a Ford (4 speed RAD, means Reverse always dies I think,, Design flaw, Reverse gears only engaged about 15 percent)

"And I know the one transmission I've cussed at, and cussed, and cussed, and cussed...... Was a Ford (4 speed...."

I hope my 5-speed TorqueFlight doesn't wind up doing this to me. I've read that "...the 2005 and later computer controlled TorqueFlight is Ford's answer to the Allison...", or words to that affect.

(I've got enough doggone problems right now with my Onan leaking fumes into the coach just enough to send off the alarm - don't need a tranny problems.)

Well there you have it Pnichols.. EVEN FORD says Allison is the better trans.

Can't argue with that

(Cause if ford had the better tranny they would not have to "Answer")

"EVEN FORD says Allison is the better trans."

Ford probably was saying that the Allison WAS better than it's OLDER transmissions, previous to it's bringing out their new (starting in 2005) TorqueFlight 5-Speed computer controlled tranny with Tow/Haul.

I have this one and it performed beautifully on our long trip this summer. I only have about 13K miles on it, however, and am keeping my fingers crossed.

On the above post he claims "Ford dealer says computer is bad but ford does not make the computer anymore."
