As Cardiac says: "don't be too quick to give up on the glass mount.
I can pull up our local repeater (full quieting) from the Shenandoah
National Park (100 air miles). Icom-2100H 50 watts and APS151 antenna-side mount on Merc Mountineer.
Of course the mountain top makes it happen.

Any glass mount is always going to be a compromise to a hard piece of coax plugged straight into the antenna. You will never get the same performance trying to couple through 1/4” of glass. The question is what are you willing to live with?

I have a dual band Larsen mounted on the right front corner of the fender. The angle mount is screwed to the inside lip of the fender and no visible holes. The range and coverage is excellent. As an alternate you might want to consider a good magnetic mount dual band antenna and put it in the center of the roof. Used this for over a year with great coverage.

Look for a local commercial radio shop, I am sure there is a local Kenwood or Motorola dealer nearby. They should be able to do a professional job and tell you exactly what they have done before. There are plenty of fleet Suburbans out there and they should have install plenty of radios in them.
Also consider spending a few $ and have the power wire pull through the firewall while you have the truck in the shop without killing a day of work and buying tools that cost as much as the job.
If your husband is as busy as I am, it would be a lot faster to send the truck out. I am still without a radio in the car the i bought 5 months ago. I just don't feel like sending the car out now that I have accumulated all the tools and parts that I needed to do the job myself.
