Dealer demonstrated a power awning that would dump. The trailer was delivered with one that would not dump. Can only use in calm clear day. Can not leave anything outside overnight or in rain. Will replace with manual one when we get back home.

I have a Dometic Power Awning that would not tilt, so I cut 2" off the top of the support with the motor (rh)& re-installed the motor. Now it automatically has 5-1/2" to 6" of tilt when deployed. Drains water just fine. Also allows for tying it down with straps to the ground just like a manual awning with no worries about water gathering in the middle or wind. Rolls up just fine. No problems whatsoever.

Cutting for the tilt does sound like an idea. I spoke with the dealer about the issue, they stated they had several people also complaing about the same thing. The roller where the awning goes actually bent, when I close the awning, it bent the arm and end up closing outside where it folds and bang against the camper, not causing any damage, but just does not look and sound good. I am currently working on getting this awning replaced by dometic (A&E). Wish me luck, should be able to happen.

There are NOT 2 Dometic power awnings with arms for regular use. The only other Dometic Power Awning is the LA03 which is a 120 volt in a Box and is designed for Hi Line motorhomes. They only have the Weatherpro which has been about the same design for about 6 years. The One Step was the first Dometic Electric awning and the Weatherpro replaced it after they discontinued the One Step. All have a shed on the REAR arm. This arm should release by spring if water builds up, but the OEM RV maker may have optioned different arms which would NOT be Dometic's fault. That said, NONE of the awnings are designed to be left in rain or Wind. They want you to retract in rain and wind. Below is from the Dometic operators manual. The PROBLEM is people are not responsible. What 1 person would say is light rain may be heavy rain to another. Regardless, the rain builds up or a combination of rain and wind and the awning gets damaged and they blame the awning maker. That is why Dometic has the disclaimer from below. Doug
The A&E WeatherPro awning is extremely durable
and can be operated during light rain
and wind conditions. However, when periods
of heavy rain, or wind is expected; or you
leave the awning unattended the awning
should be closed. Damage caused by wind
and rain is not covered by warranty.
D. Left Arm
Your A & E awning is designed to shed water if left out in
light rain. If water builds up on the awning, the left arm will
automatically decrease the awning height approximately 9
inches. When there is no longer the need to shed water it
will return to the normal height.

Sorry to disagree, but Dometic does have 2 12v power awnings. Rockwood & Flagstaff put the cheaper of the two on all their trailers as standard equipment. Dometic has come out with a kit that will allow adjustment of the LH support for draining. The only problem with it is that most of the trailers have two doors and the one most often used is the rear door which is where they drain the water plus when you lower it the door will rub on the awning. I shortened the front support and solved the problem.

Doesn't that make the awning roll up crooked next to the roof?

Dometic has developed a retro-fit and will give it to dealers who request it. Just last Friday we had ours installed and it works great. Our dealer assured us it would work properly when it rained. No charge from Dometic to dealers but the dealer must install it inorder to maintain the warranty (Cost us $100 to get it installed).

Very slight wrinkle when rolled up, but not any more than what the manual ones have. This mod had been done by several Rockwood/Flagstaff owners and all have been very pleased. As for ken&ann, I think your dealer over charged you. The lower arm kit they installed takes at the most 10 minutes to install. It is a matter of removing 2 pins, remove the orig. arm & replace with the adjustable arm and re-install the 2 pins. With the new arm, you have to make sure you readjust it before retracting the awning. The mod I do takes about 25 minutes and in everyone's opinion that has done it, works better than the original which you have to mess with to get the valance to deploy properly, plus it is all automatic. I have the new kit for the white arms, but will not install it in case someone needs one. Just let me know.

The other is indeed the 9100 model. FINALLY found the Install directions for it. The standard arm hardware does NOT drop to shed water. The standard hardware allows flexing in WIND only to prevent damage. They have an upgrade to allow the arm to drop to shed water and that is why there is labor to install but no charge for the part if a customer complains. Doug
